Equity wins! TY @UofCalifornia for reforming college admissions & increasing access by scrapping the SAT/ACT. Proud to have been a part of the push in the aftermath of the 2019 college admissions scandal #OperationVarsityBlues. #ACR64 @JohnAPerez @EloyOakley
BREAKING: @UofCalifornia regents unanimously vote to suspend SAT/ACT testing requirements for admission for four years and move to full elimination or a new UC test by 2025. Move aimed at widening equitable access for all students.
1/ 👍🏽 @UofCalifornia leaders for the preliminary recommendation to drop the SAT & ACT for admissions.
After #OperationVarsityBlues #CollegeAdmissionsScandal, we passed #ACR64 to have #UC #CSU conduct a critical study the effectiveness of the #SAT #ACT exams.
I think these students are onto something.
With #OperationVarsityBlues, we saw fraudulent SATs where wealthy families took advantage of the admissions process.
We passed #ACR64 to look at the usefulness of the ACT/SAT, and if necessary, we may need to look at alternatives.
The UC system was hit with new pressure to drop the SAT by groups alleging the tests discriminate against disabled, low-income and underrepresented minority students.

Yes!
To ensure a fair playing field, we must look at whether the SAT/ACT is the best measurement for admissions.
#ACR64 put the #CAleg on record to request @UofCalifornia & require @calstate to study the usefulness for these tests & possibly include a plan for phasing them out.
Many students go on to achieve high academic success with average SAT/ACT scores.
I was glad to see #ACR64 pass in the #CAleg to request @UofCalifornia & require @calstate to study the usefulness, effectiveness, and need for the SAT/ACT in our college admissions process.
Good for you, Alexis. I too had a below average #SAT score (but a 4.2 HS GPA). Glad @UCBerkeley took a chance on us & understood that standardized tests aren’t an accurate reflection of student achievement & potential. Another reason why I am a proud #Cal Bear! #GoBears!

#ACR64 passes in the #CAleg!
In response to the #VarsityBluesScandal, this resolution puts #CAleg on record to request @UofCalifornia & require @calstate to study the usefulness, effectiveness, and need for the SAT/ACT to build back the public’s trust in the admissions process.
#ACR64 passes Senate Education Committee today. It will charge a task force to examine the value and/or discrimination that comes from standardized tests for college admission. Congrats to @KevinMcCartyCA
@Steve_Glazer Thank you @Steve_Glazer for your leadership on this issue for over 30 years and for your vote today in support of #ACR64!
And I look forward to continuing our efforts to reform college admissions to make them as equitable as possible.

The recent college admissions scandal was a clear signal that it is time we study the best measures for determining college success.
#ACR64 is a crucial step forward to achieving our ultimate goal of ensuring equal opportunity.
In Senate Education Committee today we will hear a proposal by @AsmKevinMcCarty to study the usefulness, effectiveness and need for the SAT and ACT tests in college admissions. As you can see from this 1981 Op-Ed, this matter has been on my mind for a while. #ACR64
