The @_AfricanUnion Commission, through the @AU_DARBE , will convene an Extraordinary Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Africa's Preparedness and Response to the Anticipated 2026 #ElNiño on 30 July 2026 in a hybrid format from the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Held under the theme, "Strengthening Africa's Preparedness, Resilience and Climate Action: Responding to the Anticipated 2026 El Niño while Advancing Africa's Priorities Towards #COP31 and #COP32," the high-level meeting will bring together Ministers, senior government officials, Regional Economic Communities, development partners, and technical agencies to strengthen continental preparedness, enhance early warning systems, mobilize resources, and coordinate Africa's collective response to the anticipated impacts of El Niño.
The meeting will also provide updates on Africa's participation at COP31, preparations towards COP32, disaster risk reduction, and the implementation of the 2026 AU Theme of the Year on Water and Sanitation, reinforcing the continent's commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development under Agenda 2063.
