Psychiatric medications must always be given with the admonition to the patient that stopping them can be difficult and even dangerous, just as when we prescribe medications for hypertension or diabetes. I don’t agree with your underlying premise that these medications rarely are effective. This issue has been discussed in this forum ad nauseam. The literature suggests that they are effective, even if not 100%. The naysayers claim that the literature is defective because all the studies are supported by big Pharma. In my opinion, this is a distortion, and that we are dealing with an unwarranted prejudice against psychiatric medication in general.
