Stuff got stressful on the last day of #afsam20, so I had to let this account sit. Stuff is waaay more stressful today, so it seems like the PERFECT time to share what I couldn't before! Cute pet pics coming your way!

Another takeaway from González-Martin's article and #afsam20 is that folk scholarship isn't always published in folk journals. I'm excited to see the new changes at JAF/JFR/WF, but I wonder if/how past policy at these journals contributed to a "hidden curriculum" in the field? [5
In thinking about highlights from #afsam20, it was amazing to listen to and have dialogue on race, decolonization, and recentering the periphery in Folklore. @afsfolklorists [3]

Hey #afsam20 folks who attended (or haven't watched yet) my AFS talk on how my skydiving research has been torn into (potentially fertile) shreds by COVID & politics, this is the VOTE jump (I'm in the "O") I showed at the end of my presentation. Please share! #Folklore #VoteEarly
Your right to vote is so important, we decided to write it in the sky.

Starting a week of relative calm at home after attending #afsam20 -which was brilliant and exhausting, adopting 2 parakeets and helping to make a beautiful wedding for my brother.
Good morning! First, a thank you to all the participants in #afsam20! The meeting was a great success and that is thanks in large part to all of you. With the meeting still fresh on our minds, we want to ask you to share your takeaways and favorite moments.

Folklorists & other academic friends, do you have any good recent articles or podcasts to recommend addressing the stress & anxiety our culture is experiencing during COVID? Something accessible/relatable for undergrad students to read & discuss? Thanks! #afsam20 #AcademicTwitter

Also, your panel on the blues #afsam20 was fantastic! Hope we can make it happen again.
Remembering Jessie Mae Hemphill, born on this day in 1923 near Senatobia, Mississippi. Here she is playing “Train, Train” at the National Downhome Blues Festival in Atlanta in 1984.
So weird to wake up in my own bed the morning after #AFSAM20 ! The dance party was divine; I loved grooving with colleagues after an incredibly intellectually stimulating conference. I agree with many: despite the weirdness & Zoom fatigue, the format was powerfully democratizing.
