@gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD The goal posts for URiM are also so much greater when what you accomplish becomes the standard for all URiM. Inherently, it’s completely unfair using smaller sample sizes as representative values for the overall population. #AJSChatA5 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery

@gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD There is also an issue with mentorship – most mentors use the same approach for all their mentees and it doesn’t always work. Plus, there is a discordance when the mentors that have the grants are typically White and Male. #AJSChatA5 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery

@gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD We did not look at success rate by individuals but rather how many were granted. We did find that median awards for White surgeons increased by $215,699, and decreased by $30,074 for non-White surgeons. #AJSChatA5 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery

@gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD Awardees were predominantly men (82% in 2012 vs 78% in 2022) and White (82% in 2012 vs 76% in 2022). What have we really done to change this? #AJSChatA5 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery
