Plus, there is a discordance when the mentors that have the grants are typically White and Male. #AJSChatA5 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery
@gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD From my experiences, I think our systems disincentivize women and minorities from being able to sacrifice years of their life (see #AJSChatA2) to get a grant. #AJSChatA5 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery
@gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD We did not look at success rate by individuals but rather how many were granted. We did find that median awards for White surgeons increased by $215,699, and decreased by $30,074 for non-White surgeons. #AJSChatA5 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery
