@gogo_gopss @SamirGadepalli @RebeccaRenteaMD @NEJM @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery #AJSChatA6: There is no “right” time to initiate a mentee-mentor relationship as these are dynamic and often evolve in parallel with trainees’ & surgeons’ careers. @gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD I think the issues are with the mentors and not mentees. Mentees do a good job of recognizing opportunities and try to max them out when given the chance. #AJSChatA6 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery

@gogo_gopss @NikhilShah_MD @RebeccaRenteaMD We need mentors at every stage of our careers. Specifically for surgeon scientists, look at track record (what their mentees accomplish, diversity of mentees), what the institutional culture is, and how good is the personality fit. #AJSChatA6 #AJSChat @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery

@gogo_gopss @SamirGadepalli @RebeccaRenteaMD #AJSChatA6: In a fantastic @NEJM editorial, Dr. Koven writes, “a true mentor is someone who has more imagination about you than you have about yourself.” @ajs_stars @AmJSurgery
