Starting in the 1980s, the “Loire Vivante” campaign took the first steps to bring back #salmon, and its actions prevented the construction of another dam downstream, led to the construction of a hatchery, and the closure of salmon fishing. #AMBERstudies #letitflow

The Poutès Dam was first built in 1936 (7m high) and later modified during WWII to reach a height of 18m. The dam blocked access to 1 of the best spawning habitat in the entire Loire-Allier basin. #AMBERstudies #letitflow

Many of our barriers are in association with fish farms (thus privately owned, aka expensive to remove!) and rather small in size. Small does NOT mean no consequences; we face the SAME barrier issues as large dams @WildTroutTrust #AMBERstudies #fishmigration #letitflow #loveflows
DK’s highest point is 171m above sea level. Gradient is a big limiting factor in our rivers; that also means rheophilic habitat is RARE👇. Where we HAVE gradient is where we've put BARRIERS in the past! Many are unused/not part of the national database. #AMBERstudies #letitflow
