Britain’s Sunday Times has attempted to smear @ClareDalyMEP, Ireland’s anti-imperialist MEP, by insinuating that her work on prisoners rights somehow implicates her in a shady (non-existent) plot between the Russians and the Real IRA. However disappointing it may be to Rupert Murdoch and MI6, it is clear that this exciting, Bond-esque tale is nothing of the sort.
Clare Daly has worked on the issues of prisoners’ rights and prison conditions since her time in the Dáil, and has continued to do so on the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee since her election as an MEP. This is part of her job as an elected representative and she should be commended for her commitment to the issue.
It is no coincidence that this story has come out in the run-up to the European elections. Clare Daly stands up for Palestine, against imperialism, for a fairer Europe and a fairer Ireland. Establishment politicians, security spooks and media moguls alike all fear her presence in the European Parliament. Send them a message by voting Clare Daly #1 in the European elections on Friday, June 7th.
