Presumably the same type of propulsion units would be installed on the planned quad-azimuth port #icebreakers that are... *ahem* inspired by our #ARC124 design. The 2019-built Ob has four 3,000-kilowatt ABB Azipod ICE 1400 type propulsion units. We called them "kettlebells".

@Vanha_21 To me, it's actually less about intellectual property rights and more about being a good naval architect. There's quite a few things I would have done differently in the #ARC124 had I known then what I know now. Never copy other people's compromises or, even worse, mistakes.

I think the aft wheelhouse is still the one the Russian designers copied from our #ARC124 design — the geometry is different from the forward part — but perhaps it has been moved a bit further aft to improve the field of view "over the shoulders". https://t.co/RR7JkJBgiz

One thing that keeps bugging me with the 21900M2 is the aft wheelhouse. They copy-pasted it from our Aker #ARC124 design line-by-line in AutoCAD and then pushed it too far between the engine casings so the field of view from the aft steering position is very limited.

Atomflot's port #icebreaker Ob left its summer moorings in Murmansk last week for "DRILLING POINT". After drifting in the Kara Sea for a few days, it returned to the Kara Gates to intercept Gazprom's drilling jack-up Arcticheskaya. (AIS data via @VesselFinder) #ARC124

The Double Acting Ship (DAS) principle was developed by our predecessor, Kværner Masa-Yards Arctic Technology Centre (MARC), in the early 1990s. The #icebreakers in the @ABBMarine video are also inspired by our highly efficient Aker #ARC130 and Aker #ARC124 designs.
