Great to hear tips for ensuring access to #ProstateMRI and treatment for #ProstateCancer during #Movmber and #COVID19 from @radiolobt @NickSchiedaMD @acw_rad @SilviaChangMD @LetDdiceFlyHigh @Purysko @VermaSadhna @lkayat @benspilseth in @ARRS_Radiology #ARRSProstateChat

@ARRS_Radiology Happy to hear our @SAR_ProstateDFP members’ experiences. @acw_rad @SilviaChangMD @LetDdiceFlyHigh @Purysko @VermaSadhna @lkayat @benspilseth and all colleagues #ARRSProstateChat
@ARRS_Radiology Our urologists were doing all pre and post bx appts virtual.
We switched to BP MRI to maintain volumes and reduce scan time to help with time between pts (we are still today only at ~90% of pre-covid MR volumes)

Thank you everyone for joining and sharing your experiences, thanks @radiolobt for moderating and @ARRS_Radiology for organizing and promoting #ProstateCancer #Movember #movember2020
Stay safe everyone! Thanks for participating #ARRSProstateChat

@lkayat @ARRS_Radiology Yes, telehealth visits are more common and we go over MRIs of patients with clinicians and patients/families and this is an effective system #arrsprostatechat
There is no doubt there will be delayed #ProstateCancer diagnosis and treatment / what the long term implications are for morbidity and mortality are unknown
So far have not seen any terrible cases due to delays, thankfully #ARRSProstateChat
Q5: What will be the long term impact on prostate cancer diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for men with prostate cancer due to the COVID-19 pandemic? #ARRSProstateChat

@ARRS_Radiology A5: there will be delays in diagnosis and follow up since prostate MRI and biopsy can be considered elective. It is difficult to predict outcomes but hopefully with vaccines becoming available we will proceed safely but for sometime things will never be same #arrsprostatechat
A5 I hope, #ProstateCancer being more indolent than #BreastCancer, there will be little long-term impact. However, the effects of the brief #USPSTF recommendations against #PSA screening are already evident. Worry is warranted. #ARRSProstateChat

This is a great point, Thank God for PIRADS! I can’t even imagine reading a report performed outside our institution without it. #lifesaver #ARRSProstateChat
This is unfortunately an unavoidable evil. Patients are getting imaged close to their homes to avoid travel. Immensely thankful to #Pirads for providing minimum standards for performing prostate MRI for optimal imaging.
@NickSchiedaMD Yes and sometimes the quality is not as good and it is difficult to explain it to the patient and clinicians. Unfortunately MRI quality is not uniform 😔 #arrsprostatechat
No family members or friends has been tricky at times for patients who do not communicate well - the masks and visors don’t help with non verbal communication either! #ARRSProstateChat
@ARRS_Radiology Also, we still keep appointments far from each other l, allow only one family member now and give patients mask. We keep all safety measures effective from spring 2020 #arrsprostatechat 😷

A4 Good question! So far we haven't changed anything. I imagine we will follow the institution's guidance regarding elective procedures. We are still trying to catch up mammograms, though, so who knows for #ProstateMRI? It depends if the OR's become ICU's again. #ARRSProstateChat
Q4: With a resurgence of COVID-19 cases (Fall 2020), which strategies employed during the initial wave are still being used and which have been modified at your institution? #ARRSProstateChat

That is scary / sucks to read cases that are performed on your patients done elsewhere due to #COVID19 - we are seeing this also as the case load is distributed to improve access 😢 #ARRSProstateChat
@ARRS_Radiology A3: we got a big backlog and some patients who could not wait us to reopen started to get imaging in other centers and they shipped their imaging studies for us to read. We tried to help them but without biopsies it was incomplete help #arrsprostatechat
@ARRS_Radiology We now have returned to 80-85% of pre-covid volumes for MRI and targeted biopsies. It takes more time to finish all day since we work with few team members to avoid crowds and do more detailed cleaning. We keep same deep cleaning and always wearing PPE rules #arrsprostatechat
We definitely did not stop MRI or biopsy in the second wave - patient and staff wear PPE, cleaning +++, verbal consent, volumes are 80-90% normal - seems to be going well for now. We are still struggling to catch up from the Spring. #ARRSProstateChat

Same in 🇨🇦 - I believe the current recommendations here are to only get tested if symptomatic: system was crippled by massive increase in demand when schools opened. Asymptomatic testing is not common in Canada currently. #ARRSProstateChat
A2 Our rules about who gets what kind of #COVID19 test when keep changing - I let the schedulers keep track of that. #ARRSProstateChat

At my current institution, all pts coming to hospital get a COVID test prior. #ARRSProstateChat
A3: Short term impact has been profound! MRI has caught up but biopsy is WAY BEHIND, and we are fighting a losing battle. We do 75% of the biopsied we did before so will need blitzes to catch up / but #COVID19 cases are higher now than before. 🤨#ARRSProstateChat
