Eight reasons Amharas oppose the Abiy regime’s attempt to disarm Amhara Region Special Forces (ARSF). 1. Every region in Ethiopia has special forces, similar to the States having their own National Guards.  Regional forces are not specific to the Amhara region, but the disarmament and dissolution are happening only against Amharas now. 2. There is no legal mandate for the federal government (let alone the Prosperity Party) to decide on the fate of regional forces. The decision could only be made by Regional Councils who established the forces. As such, the decision is a manifestation of the extent of Abiy’s dictatorship has come to be. 3. TPLF is armed and training more militia. The dissolution of ARSF will put the region at risk of another round of invasion by TPLF. 4. Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) continues to attack areas bordering the Oromia region. ARSF was the force that responded to the attack from OLA when OLA attacked Amhara towns like Ataye for ten rounds. Disarming ARSF leaves the Amhara region vulnerable to an attack from OLA. 5. The Amhara people believe this is a direct target against them by Abiy's government and a pretext to annex territory and continue to oppress the Amhara people. We believe the disarmament is intended for the fed to give away rightfully Amhara-administered areas of Wolkait and Raya to Tigray as Oromo Prosperity Party and TPLF warm up their alliance against Amharas. 6. Amharas believe, based on evidence accumulated over the years, that Abiy's government is responsible for the #AmharaGenocideinOromia and do not trust him for their security.  This action will add to the frustration and distrust that spur people to take matters into their own hands.  ARSF is a security body that many feel can possibly help resist attempts by Abiy's government to take the most extreme action. 7. The attempt to disarm ARSF occurs while Amhara leaders and journalists are being arrested en mass. 8. Because Amhara people do not trust the Abiy government, many Amhara regional forces members will most likely join irregular forces, and many might resist disarming.  We have already heard of clashes between ARSF and federal security forces.  This will cause further instability in the Amhara region, the country, and HOA. Now is not the time to add to the instability of the country.  Anyone concerned about peace and stability in the region should oppose this #WaronAmhara
