#ASRC2017 will conclude with a 2 hour discussion on what the Australian #SpaceAgency should be. Aim to reach consensus (!) to then draft a letter to the minister on behalf of the conference. #CatHerding

Makes me think of a few small things @AAOastro could easily do, e.g. providing staff with appropriate acknowledgements of traditional custodians to use in presentations, publication, etc. #ASRC2017

Notes lack of cultural competence training for astronomers, & biases present in much written material on indigenous cultures (esp. those based on oral tradition). Need mutual respect, understanding, benefits. #ASRC2017

Last in the session, Carla Guedes on cultural competence for astronomers. Concern over relationship between western astronomers & indigenous peoples. TMT the prime example, also looked at SKA. #ASRC2017

Another upside down example, Baiame. Orientation ties in with story of tripping over while chasing the emu in the Milky Way, also holding a boomerang (crescent Moon appears in just the right place) #ASRC2017

Interestingly some are upside down as seen from Australia, same orientation as Greek depiction of Orion. E.g. Nyuuri, Betelgeuse is right arm, holding a torch at radiant of Orionids meteor showers (sparks!) #ASRC2017
