@cosmopolitanman #AVisnotPR. We have never had a vote on a proportional electoral system
https://t.co/3sI3GTZJjS
@PAisthorpe @chrisgreybrexit #AVisnotPR It uses preferential voting which is a good thing but sticks to choice constraining single-member constituencies which means 50%-1 of the votes are still wasted.
Halve the wastage in 3-member districts.
Better still, use 5-member districts

@Ihambly @grahambsi #AVisnotPR - there has never been a vote on proportional representation in the UK
@Only_Me_4 @acgrayling @guardian @MakeVotesMatter @UnlockDemocracy @LibDems #AVisnotPR - afraid they blew a great chance in 2010
@Wabbit8ofYorks @MakeVotesMatter @benhowlettuk AV was not a Proportional system. In fact it often results in less proportional outcomes than the current system. #AVisnotPR
@richardintheuk @UKLabour #AVisnotPR.
People have never had a chance to vote on a proportional system. And decisions are not made for an eternity, but in the moment. A lot has happened since 2011
@EuropeanJulian @grahambsi @UKLabour 2011 Referendum?
We think you'll find the 2011 vote offered a smoke and mirrors choice between #FPTP and #AV
Neither option represents #ProportionalRepresentation

@byatt_stephen @jessicaelgot But clearly too old to remember that AV is not a proportional system!

@electoralreform The duopoly share of the seats will be the lowest ever now. Still a case of Distortional Misrepresentation because #AVisnotPR.
@keithatfresh Referendum was on Alternative Vote. A system which is not proportional and often results in less proportionate outcomes than the current system.

@fofiv @leighbooker @PeterStefanovi2 @campbellclaret @McNestry @Itsonlyhimb0 @NobbySimpson @gsadelaide @Troels71 No. #AVisnotPR

The UK has never had a referendum on any form of Proportional Representation.
The Alternative Vote, on which the UK had a referendum in 2011, is *not* a form of PR; because it doesn't make seats match votes.
Not a "step towards PR". Not at all. Not even a little bit #AVisnotPR

@jezobrien @CharlotteWyman1 @MJJSeagull @nuttybyname @TimInSuffolk @Conservatives @BorisJohnson Well I’d say that’s how the UK undemocratic process works. On referenda, there has never been one on PR. Whilst AV can sometimes make results slightly better, it can also give as bad or even worse results than FPTP #AVisnotPR
🗳️ The #Government's attempt to impose First Past the Post on Mayoral elections has no democratic legitimacy.
🥀 Sadly, due to some Labour peers abstaining, we lost by just 7 votes.
@MakeVotesMatter @UnlockDemocracy #ElectionsBill #AVisnotPR
@jpatley @LibDemStephen @dogooderpaul @AntacsB @EleniCourea @ayeshahazarika @Femi_Sorry @BWallArthur @UB5simon Can get that at a GE, like any other policy (fwiw I'd support a ref if pro-PR parties got a majority of seats but not votes - but if we accept existing govts as legitimate we can accept using that to make the country democratic)
#AVisnotPR, PR would win. https://t.co/sZJzEXJeC3
Yes @AndrewYang. #AVisnotPR where AV=IRV=Choice constraining single-winner preferential voting and still 50%-1 votes are wasted.
But use #RCV in 3, 5 or 7-winner @PR_STV districts and effective votes rise to 75%, 83.33% and 87.5%. The #FarRepAct does this.

One of the best things about @AndrewYang is that he's open to learning & updating.
I read his new book, and he has a set of reasonable points, but on the issue of ranked choice voting, he's overpromising and that is not great.

.@calrcv thanks for the follow. You are one of the few #RCV groups that knows #AVisnotPR. Australia has elected its House of Representatives by RCV for more than a century. No good to me in 55 years of voting. My @PR_STV Senate vote is always effective. https://t.co/CAIc1csWX2

@c21st_sailor @LondonEconomic We've never had a referendum on PR.
2011 was a referendum on the alternative vote. In many aspects a system that produces less proportionate outcomes even than the current system.

“In a ranking of 58 industrialized countries on the Climate Change Performance Index, countries with FPTP such as the US, Canada and Australia are near the bottom of the list.”

“Comparative research on countries with winner-take-all versus proportional voting systems shows a marked difference in performance in these two groups of countries.” https://t.co/xCgrgVm7Y7
To be clear @DPJHodges: All 2011 tells us is when offered a choice between our current rigged voting system and another one, 29% of the British people decided to stick without our current one.
The majority (58%) rejected both FPTP and AV by not voting.
#AVisnotPR #GetPRDone
@Femi_Sorry @fleetstreetfox OK, once more, then I'm off to get a haircut. We have a FPTP electoral system. It has flaws, and it has benefits. The British people were asked if they wanted to change it. They voted "no". We live in a democracy. That's just a fact. I'm sorry you keep losing. But there it is.
