Dr. @SFatumo, the Head of Non-Communicable Diseases Genomics and the African Computational Genomics Group @MRC_Uganda, emphasised the importance of including #AfricanGenomes in #PrecisionMedicine during his keynote presentation titled "Unlocking the African Genomes for Precision Medicine" at #PathReD2023 in #Johannesburg. He challenged the 1000 participants gathered to drive data diversity. "It's time to challenge biases in medical research. Let's gather diverse datasets that represent the global population, ensuring that our findings are applicable to all patients, regardless of their ancestry or background," he said. According to him, there is a need to explore new frontiers. "Let's do so with unwavering ethical principles. Transparency, patient consent, and data security must remain at the core of our efforts," he emphasised. Dr. Segun is certain that everyone, whether researchers, clinicians, or technologists, can be a catalyst for change. "Your contributions are vital to shaping the future of healthcare.
