Yesterday, the Supreme Court failed Black voters in South Carolina. We are deeply disturbed by the Supreme Court’s decision in #AlexandervSouthCarolina that allowed the state to continue to deny thousands of Black voters in Congressional District 1 equal access to the ballot box.

"South Carolina once again evaded their constitutional obligations during this redistricting cycle, despite today's decision." LDF's @johnscusick joined @civilrightsorg's overview of today's decision in Alexander v. South Carolina.

Any suggestion that the consequence of #AlexandervSouthCarolina is minimal because the damage was already done by the Supreme Court permitting partisan gerrymandering misses the central point that Black voters were exploited because of their race. 4/5

The indefensible #AlexandervSouthCarolina decision reminds us that Supreme Court redistricting jurisprudence is premised on a hierarchy of discrim: the right to discriminate for partisan gain is more protected than voters' right to be free from racial discrim in districting. 1/5

The highest court in our land greenlit racial discrim in South Carolina’s redistricting process, denied Black voters the right to be free from the race-based sorting and sent a message that facts, process, and precedent will not protect the Black vote. #AlexanderVSouthCarolina
