Tonight feels unbearably quiet. The food is gone now. Not tomorrow. Not “soon.” Now. And all I can think about… is their faces when morning comes. The dogs will run toward me with hope. The cats will cry softly around my feet. None of them know that tonight, for the first time in a long while, I truly don’t know how I will feed them. I spent the whole day trying to gather enough help. But all I could collect… was barely enough for a third of one bag. Not enough to go to the trader. Not enough to protect tomorrow. https://t.co/29ODl54J0d What breaks me the most is knowing that if nothing changes tonight… I may have to take from my own family’s food just so these innocent souls do not sleep hungry. Every day here feels heavier than the one before. But their trust in me never changes. They still look at me like I can save them from this world. I wish they knew how terrified I am of failing them tonight. 🐾
