Here's one of the things I like about working as an academic for the #Army @us_sams - in the course of 1 week I will have taught a research methods class, presented on #AppliedHistory at a conference, been briefed on an ongoing conflict, hosted 2 foreign delegations, facilitated guest speakers for my students, & worked on a project to shape the future of the #Army!

To retake Fort Drum in the Philippines from the Japanese, USS LSM-51 was converted into a siege tower to overcome the fortified island's 40-foot walls. After LSM-51 pulled alongside the island, a ramp was lowered to allow infantry and combat engineers to charge onto the roof of the sea fort. All defenders were killed.
