Identity first language is the respectful and non-discriminatory way to address an autistic person.
Individual members of the autistic community may choose to reference themselves and have others reference them specifically using person first language.

@adamfare1996 In South Africa we desist from referring to people as "autistic " because it dehumanizes sufferers. Instead we refer to them as "people who live with autism ". This shifts the focus from the individual to the condition. The same applies to albinism.

#Autism & the word "suffering." The word itself can be triggering to an #AutisticPerson, like myself, even when used with the word "Overload." When I am having #SensoryOverload, I don't see it as suffering, & a Meltdown is actually a much-needed release of sensory bombardment.
