@KevinAbroad1 I think there's a vicious cycle where the lack of opportunities to support learning languages like children makes it hard to research just how well adults can do so. So it's assumed that adults simply can't learn that way, and this keeps more opportunities from being developed.
This essentially describes #comprehensibleinput, the #naturalapproach, and/or #automaticlanguagegrowth.
Through engaging experiences in the target language, the learner's mind can naturally acquire the tongue and build connections leading to both understanding and output.
Listening is so fundamental to #languagelearning. The more you listen, the more you understand. It might be scary at first - They're talking so fast! I don't know the words - but just listening every day, it gradually slows down. Then magically, your speaking improves too.

This is the beauty of many CI approaches. Aside from turning up & being engaged (ie. having fun), things like #automaticlanguagegrowth are virtually effortless. We know it's hard to believe, but give #AUAThai, #DreamingSpanish, and similar content a try to see for yourself!
I'm often surprised at the low expectations many people have when learning a foreign language. Even as an adult, you can become REALLY good at a foreign language, understand TV and movies, novels, and speak it fluently and without effort.
