Far easier, respectful and clear to call it something different to show it's an evolution of Wesley's game, not the same game.

The 1st braunstein was designed as a prelude to Napoleonic miniatures battle.
Almost immediately afterwards the format was used in Old West, Banana Republic & medieval genres.

If Wesley endorses #BroStein as a #Braunstein, I'll start calling it that.
Until then, it's a different, newer version, just like Wesley's own Strategos N wasn't Strategos, just based on it.

DW never gave others the right to use his trademark name, unlike WotC did with the OGL game mechanics, so no one has the legal right to call their #BroStein mechanics a Braunstein.

And it doesn't have to be "only" D&D, either.

To be clear, David Wesley cannot even run "A Braunstein." He can run #Steinlike games at his cons. He can even re-use the original setting but that more like a sequel. The Dark Souls 2 of Braunstein.
