The RSO was pleased to welcome Iori Kato, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at the International Organization for Migration @UNmigration, alongside colleagues for an introductory meeting with Ben Reeves, new RSO Co Manager (Australia).
The RSO and IOM discussed opportunities to leverage our collaborative relationship to continue to strengthen experience and knowledge exchange, and align programme planning and delivery around shared regional priorities. 🫱🏼🫲🏽

The Tour de Table session at the Fourth RSO Constructive Dialogue brings together diverse regional dialogues, #BaliProcess Member Organisations and partners to focus on how cooperation can deliver more resilient migration security and protection outcomes.
Chaired by RSO Co-Manager (Australia) David Scott, the session features contributions from the Bali Process Senior Official Co-Chairs, alongside regional partners including the Budapest Process Secretariat International Centre for Migration Policy Development (@ICMPD), the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (#COMMIT) Process, OSCE – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and the Intergovernmental Consultations on Migration, Asylum and Refugees (#ICG).
Discussions focus on where regional processes can better align efforts, reduce duplication and translate dialogue into practical cooperation. Updates from @IOMAsiaPacific and @UNHCR on the Routes-Based Approach highlight how coordinated, route-focused action can strengthen responses to mixed movements and emerging risks.
The session sets a clear direction for the Dialogue: building on what works, closing gaps together, and using regional platforms to strengthen collective action against increasingly complex global threats.

🌏#BaliProcess Members have spent two days exploring how disasters and migration pressures intersect at the Crisis Preparedness Forum.
🗺️Delegates engaged in futures mapping, scenario planning and a full crisis simulation, testing frameworks against real-world conditions to strengthen regional readiness. As the forum draws to a close today, Members engaged in discussions around how preparedness can shift responses from reactive to proactive.
Four priorities for strengthening preparedness emerged:
➡️Operational readiness: ensuring frontline personnel and systems are prepared to manage surge events at land and maritime borders.
➡️Information sharing: moving intelligence on displacement trends and smuggling risks more quickly across agencies and borders.
➡️Coordination mechanisms: clarifying roles and decision points between local, national, and regional authorities.
➡️Protection pathways: embedding safeguards to protect dignity and uphold rights even under pressure
These insights will help translate dialogue into action, reinforcing solidarity and strengthening #preparedness across the Asia Pacific.

The RSO Alumni Day is an annual gathering, bringing together selected members across the RSO Alumni Network and #BaliProcess, and provides alumni with the opportunity to build professional networks, foster collaboration, and enhance technical skills.
This year's RSO Alumni Day features:
💻Open Source Intelligence (#OSINT) training—equipping alumni with essential skills to apply OSINT methods to proactively detect, investigate and disrupt online recruitment tactics used by trafficking recruiters.
🫱🏼🫲🏽Alumni Mentorship—Providing RSO Alumni with the opportunity to learn from fellow alumni who are experienced leaders in their filed on topics including bilateral cooperation, leadership, and strategies to counter trafficking in persons and people smuggling.
💡Return to Work Action Plan—sharing lessons learned and promising practices on embedding learning into the workplace.
🔎What are the key migration patterns, people smuggling and trafficking in persons routes observed in #BaliProcess Member and Observer States? How can targeted intervention and collaboration enhance prevention and response efforts?
🗺️Participants took part in a mapping exercise over the two days of the Third RSO Border Forum to identify key #migration pathways and #opportunities to deepen the understanding of smuggling and trafficking dynamics in their countries.
💡Effective border management is essential for ensuring the safety of all travelers.

Over the past two weeks, IOM, @baliprocessrso, @ICRC & @Refugees met with government representatives from 11 #BaliProcess states in 🇹🇭 to discuss improving responses to missing migrants in Asia. We stand ready to support practical #solutions to create safer #migration pathways.
2023 saw 1,500+ #migrant deaths—the deadliest year ever. We must prioritize data collection on #MissingMigrants to provide answers, and focus also on root causes like conflict & poverty to prevent dangerous journeys. #IOM supports vital int’l frameworks like #BaliProcess & #GCM.
