Some praise in an email for our Bank of England #BanknoteBan
We’ll not be taking them #BanknoteBan
@BelfastBooks Please take note!!
Great craic today with a guy from Roscommon who lives in GB and who wanted to hear all about our #BanknoteBan
One thing you might not realise is we take on ALL comers - home and away. No matter who they think they are.
In the last year or so we’ve taken on:-
BoE on #BankNoteBan Oxfam over abuse in Haiti
#DUPBan over equal marriage
Mooncats over #Gracegate
Alliance over #EMBgate
Good point, well made. As far as I know, this is the first time anyone has pointed out a lacuna in our #BanknoteBan.
We’ll have a poll tomorrow about banning Euros.
It’ll be a binding poll, so vote early and often.
@BelfastBooks By and large Ireland doesn't take our notes either.
We’ve a unique situation re our #BanknoteBan.
Customer from Edinburgh changed all his Scottish bank notes to Bank of England thinking that was the safest bet. He then ends up at ours 😱
Should we take the BoE notes off him? He’s hoking, so 10 min poll!
Had to bar someone for sliding into our DMs uninvited. They lectured us that our Bank of England #BanknoteBan was unnecessary as anyone who didn’t get their NI notes accepted in England only had themselves to blame for not being adequately prepared by having BoE notes
*types up final written warning for Mrs Books*
#BanknoteBan
Always good to see one of Mr Books’ @CrusadersFC heroes at the shop, particularly when it’s @gavinarthur11 and especially when he puts away the Bank of England note he was going to pay with and slides out an @UlsterBank note. #banknoteban
If you’re up Paddington/Bayswater direction, Maharaja, 50 Queensway, London. W2 3RY loves all the NI and Scots bank notes and can’t understand why anyone would refuse Sterling . #banknoteban
Contrary to what Mrs B is claiming, I have no Danske bank notes on me and will not be having a big hissy fit on Queensway. The one in London.
I might however try and get a bratwurst in this Austrian place and give them a geography lesson when they start slabbering. #banknoteban
Mr Books is for Londinium tomorrow to mystery ‘shap’ large GB retailers to see whether sufficient progress has been made to lift our own #banknoteban of BoE notes.
One thing’s for certain, he’ll not be asking for a 12 incher late at night in @SubwayUK like @StephenNolan did 😱 https://t.co/Rrnz9ikTve
Furious row with @SubwayUK shop after they refused to take my NI banknote . Apparently , they are not “trained” to take them in England . I offered my driving licence as ID. Still wouldn’t hand over the sandwich. Literally had the NI note thrown back at me .
*MINUTES OF BELFAST BOOKS #BANKNOTEBAN WAR CABINET, DATE REDACTED*
Mrs Books - If only we could get someone in the fast food industry in England to not give @StephenNolan some grub he ordered?
Mr Books - I’ve a mate works in @SubwayUK I could ring...
https://t.co/kldOxIjhZh
It was like I was trying to withdraw £10k cash from @SubwayUK English store last night. I had handed over my driver licence , had the £20 note laboriously inspected & they still refused to take it. Refused to hand over sandwich. Mad
And as if the whole #belfastbooksbybike and #banknoteban wasn’t enough to occupy even a large business, a tiny business in a parlour house in a north Belfast ghetto has released an extra 20 tickets and nearly sold this #AskOlgaAQEGL event out within 3 days. Thanks to you lot 👏🏽
In case you think we’ve forgotten about the #banknoteban lobby, we haven’t. Mr Books is actively lobbying the British Retail Federation and large GB businesses. He’s heading to London next Tuesday on his own dime to progress matters.
Comical #banknoteban story from customer at our shop today. Local guy gets taxi in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne - meter shows £15. Our guy tries to pay with Ulster Bank £20. Taxi driver refuses our money and takes £5 odd in coins instead. 😂😂😂
Just off the @StephenNolan show talking about our #banknoteban and totally forgot to ask him whether he likes he #Veda toasted or not 😂
So, having written to all the local banks to ascertain their understanding about local banknotes being accepted in GB, we’re still waiting to hear back in detail from @UlsterBank_Help, @DanskeBank_UK and @talktoBOI. #banknoteban
@AIBIreland haven’t responded at all 🙄
Anyone like to suggest amendments to our proposed awfully ‘official’ email to go out to large U.K. retailers tomorrow by email? #banknoteban
Thanks to @thebigeejit for sharing this #banknoteban story about her then fiancé from 2011.
