We must reinforce our values REGULARLY, CONSISTENTLY, & in a VARIETY of ways… But the shine still wears off of every new thing. We can’t prevent that. So we must also plan ahead to regenerate powerfully. #BeTaller (Full Gardner Quote in comments)

One of the easiest and hardest things for a coach to say: That is not ok. BUT YOU MUST! When you pick-and-choose times to enforce your standards, it sows uncertainty across your team. Every player (&parent &coach) must be held accountable for team standards. #BeTaller

Does every player on your team understand their VALUE and their ROLE & how you DEPEND ON THEM to walk out their role with excellence? (& NOT someone else’s role!) Define KPI’s that align with your standards. These might be CONCEPTUAL KPI’s vs numerical on your team! #BeTaller

Once you have defined your STANDARDS, it becomes easy to ID potential issues. Why wait until they pop up to address them? Plan for specific issues with your team BEFORE they are a problem. Ex: “This is what gossip looks like & this is how we handle it on our team.” #BeTaller

Your players (and families!) must understand that there is no such thing as “Culture Neutral.” Every action/word is either HELPING the team culture or HURTING it. There is no in-between. BUY-IN begins as something we want. With time, it becomes something we demand. #BeTaller

STANDARDS are STANDARDS. Coach- It means that you DO NOT get to change how you coach your players based on how you feel. And it means that your players DO NOT get exceptions from the team standards based on whether or not they FEEL it that day. #BeTaller
