He is also strong in the area of drawing and painting things in a comic style. In his spare time you will find Sam drawing comics, childrenās art, fantasy, and sci-fi art for freelance assignments.
About the book: Rome Never Fell.
To save mankind from nuclear doom, time travelers brought future technology to a faltering Rome (as chronicled in To Turn the Tide). This Roman Empire conquered the world and united mankind before spreading across the solar system and beyondāwhere they discovered they hadnāt united all of mankind.
When a Roman colony world is invaded by the Graāak, an alliance of Fallen Empire barbarians, Emperor Marcus Verus Augustus Caesar charges what can be spared of the Roman Navy and Legions with reclaiming it.
Commander Aquila Amphion is tasked with leading the fleet, and she embraces the responsibility for both professional and personal reasons. The Graāak threatened to extinguish three million Roman citizens, among them the one man who meant more to her than any otherāEvander Triarius, the scion of one of Romeās noblest families . . . and her fiancĆ©.

Today we are showcasing the art created by Eric Williams for Horngard by Elizabeth Moon.
About the artist:
From a blue collar family, Eric Williams was told from day one "Art is nice hobby but it won't pay the bills." From that day forward he was out to prove those people wrong.
As long as he could remember heās doodled and dreamed. That was evident in school where he'd daydream about monsters and space men on Mars (which, by the way, got him in a lot of trouble). His art teacher, on the other hand, did not scold him but encouraged him to put his talents to better use. In 1999 he moved his studio to Missouri to escape the high real estate prices in Maryland. Eric has enjoyed working on many exciting projects there, and has found great opportunities for illustration, graphic design, 3-D work for on-line video games, and more.
Ericās experiences have provided him with a large working perspective, including computer art, sculpture, oil, acrylic, and 3-D.
āI still daydream and doodle but now its all in a day's work.ā
About the book:
Moon brings us back to the beloved Paksennarion Universe!
Nature abhors a vacuum. And the empty throne of Horngard is no exception. In the absence of a king, the land has been given over to bandits, its potential squandered, its people exploited. Strategically important, the powerful Dragon moves to install one of his own dragonkin thereābreaking up families to do so.
But there are other forces who covet Horngard. And they will not let it go without a fight. . . .
The fates of two pairs of siblings are the key to Horngardās future: Mikael and Camwyn, Gwenno and Aris. Will they have what it takes to triumph?

Today we are showcasing the art created by Todd Lockwood for Unbearable by A. Lee Martinez.
Science Fiction and Fantasy consumed Todd Lockwoodās childhood. He started drawing before he can remember, then in his teens he discovered Tolkienās Lord of the Rings, and Dungeons and Dragons not long after. Heās been Role-Playing ever since. As an adult he became fascinated with Mythology, particularly transformative mythology and the hidden meanings of Myth.
Fantasy and sci-fi are his two favorite things to visualize, besides myth, babes, skies⦠āI have a lot of fun, because I am inventing things no one has ever seen before, things that canāt be photographed and then manipulated in Photoshop.ā Stick aroundāthe best is yet to come.
About the book: THE FATE OF THE WORLD IS IN HIS HANDS. SORRY ABOUT THAT.
A sword. A dragon. A lowlife.
Ortiz is a man without grand ambition or talent. But on the day heās digging that grave, he discovers a magic sword. Not just any magic sword, but the magic sword: A weapon that keeps away the apocalypse in the form of an all-devouring dragon.
Heās the last guy who should bear it, but where can a man surrounded by the worst people find a hero to rise to the challenge? And how can he give away a sword that keeps his mob boss from killing him, a dragon from stepping on him, and his girlfriend from leaving?
Trapped between the Waking and Dreaming Worlds, from shadowy streets to the golden halls of Avalon, against criminal thugs and living myths, heāll need smarts and luckāthings heās always had in short supplyā if heās going to figure out how to claw his way up from the bottom rung of a lousy life.
And maybe keep the world from ending, if he has time

Today we present the art created by Dominic Harman for The Sands of Mars by @ThingyInBrainy.
Dominic Harman has been illustrating professionally in the field of fantasy, science fiction, and horror book covers for more than 25 years. His first professional sale was to the British science fiction magazine, Interzone in 1997. He landed his first major book cover deal in 2001. He's won the British Science Fiction Award for best artwork three times, as well as the Asimovās Science Fiction Award for Best Artist amongst many, many others.
The Sands of Mars by Robert E. Hampson
Colonel ShepardāEarthās first bionic augmentee and the man who once crossed interplanetary space to pull off an impossible rescue āfinally reaches Mars. His new command sits under the Eumenides Dorsum ridge on Amazonis Planitia, a city hewn into caverns where life is math and margin: closed-loop ecosystems, strictly rationed propellant, and minutes-long lightspeed comms lag.
While Shepard grapples with distance from his wife and newborn daughter on Earth, whispers of sabotage, industrial espionage, and anti-bionics prejudice begin to erode trust inside the base. Then a rival coalitionās colony ship goes off course and slams into the canyons of Noctis Labyrinthus, far across the Tharsis highlands.
Thereās no shuttle landing, no cavalryāonly engineering, endurance, and a commander whose augmented body can go where others canāt. To pull survivors out of the crash before Mars itself finishes them, Shepard must design a rescue that physics barely permits and politics would rather avoid.
Scientifically rigorous yet deeply human, The Sands of Mars is the high-stakes sequel to The Moon and the Desertāa novel about leadership under pressure, and the price of keeping a frontier alive.

About the book: They call themselves my found family, but they slaughtered my kin. Now, I will pay back the murderers in blood tenfold.
Their ruin is a mirror they polished themselves. They took me as a child and hammered me into a weapon.
They taught me the art of disappearing: how to slip through a room like a shadow at noon, how to dress a face in lies until no one recognizes the man beneath. They taught the small, hands-on cruelties: how to hide poison, how to slit a throat before the man can make a noise.
Most dangerous of all . . . they taught me patience. They taught me to never quit until the job was completed.
So let them sleep in their castles and whisper of safety. Let them keep their cleverness and secrets. When darkness comesāand it willāI will be the thing beneath the floorboards, the breath on their necks, the quiet that becomes the scream. I will return what they took, multiplied by the cruelty they practiced.
Their hands built the blade.
Their choices sharpened it.
Their blood will be the prize.

Today we are showcasing the art created by Tom Kidd for 1637: Pilgrimās Passage by Eric Flint & Griffin Barber.
Although a scatterbrain as a child, Tom Kidd was a magic copying machine. Once he looked at something he could draw it accurately, but he was quick to notice that machines could do just as good a job as he could. Even though he had offers to do portraits, he set about making things up to draw instead - no camera could do that, and making things up was more fun anyway. He eventually moved to New York City. His simple plan: sink or swim. After some gasping and flailing in the muck of the big city he got the hang of it and begin treading water. He has worked for a number of publishers: Baen Books, Random House, DAW Books, and others.
1637: Pilgrimās Passage by Eric Flint & Griffin Barber
Jahanara Begum is on pilgrimage, a journey and rite every Muslim must essay if able. The up-timers of the USE Mission are escorting the princess in her travels to Jeddah before returning home, their mission accomplished and allies made of the court of Dara Shikoh, having helped to place him on the Peacock Throne.
But the pilgrimage is only the public-facing reason for her departure from Agra.
In reality, the begum sahib is also carrying her love child off to Jeddah in hopes of giving birth in secrecy. Everyone outside the Mission and her most loyal followers must be kept ignorant of the impending birth, a feat which would be hard enough if her brother hadnāt saddled her with the presence of her great aunt and frequent adversary, the sometime empress Nur Jahan.
Can Jahanara Begum and her USE allies safely navigate the power politics of the Pilgrimās Passage?

Fenrir by Eric Flint & Ryk E. Spoor
When astronomer Stephanie Bronson uncovers a massive alien vessel named Fenrir racing toward the Sun, she must lead a desperate mission to rescue its crew before a catastrophic failure dooms them both to fiery destruction.
It was just a dot of light that appeared out of nowhere. Stephanie Bronson thought she might have found a distant supernova. Instead, what sheād found was something more than a thousand miles across, moving towards the Sun at almost a third the speed of light from the constellation of Lupus, the Wolf. Even more frightening, the objectācalled Fenrir, after the Norse Wolf of the Worldās Endāwas slowing down. It was not a comet or even a rogue planet.
As the world braced itself for the arrival of the immense, frighteningly silent alien visitor, Stephanie held hope that they still might communicate with Fenrirāuntil something happened that no one had imagined: Fenrir flared and its drive died, leaving the huge ship careening out of control to a fiery death inside the orbit of Venus.

Today we are showcasing the art created by Pierluigi Abbondanza for Tempered by Fire by @MelissaOlthoff
Dragon Award nominee Pierluigi Abbondanza is an Italian illustrator working mainly as a book and comic cover artist. ā "As long as I can remember, I've always been captivated by the power of a good visual representation, independently if it was a photo, a painting or a graphic design; in fact when I was a child, I often went to the newsstand with my mom, and my attention was always caught by strong magazines and comic book cover images. I soon felt the need to start representing what was in my head with any media I had around. I started with pencils and later switched to acrylics and oils, until I discovered digital painting software in 2006, which suddenly became my favourite media to create art.ā
Tempered by Fire by Melissa Olthoff
You can do everything right . . . and still lose.

Now, every mission is more dangerous than the last.
Griffin riders are the eyes and ears of the Tennessan military, an advantage unmatched ever since their enemyās griffin riders vanished from the battlefield years ago. So when a dying Savinian griffin shows up at a Tennessan fort, Harper and Felix are dispatched to retrieve the message she carriesāa plea for help from Saviniaās last griffin riders.
A plea Tennessan canāt afford to ignore.
Harper and Felix are assigned to the team tasked with unraveling the mystery of Saviniaās griffins. Their mission will take them deep behind enemy lines and into the dreaded Southern Smoke Mountains. After everything goes wrong, Harper and Felix will be pushed to their limits.

Today we are showcasing the art created by @ Larry Elmore for 1632 by @EricFlint.
Larry Elmore has been creating fantasy and science fiction art for more than 40 years. After obtaining a BFA from Western Kentucky University in 1971, the draft forced Elmore into military service for two years; he then did artwork for the American government, National Lampoon, and Heavy Metal before accepting a position with TSR in 1981 to create and supervise their game-related art. During the next six years, along with many paintings for TSR books and games, Elmore produced a serialized Comic for Dragon Magazine, Snarfquest, which was later published as a graphic novel. Since 1987, while still undertaking assignments for TSR, he has painted book covers for Baen Books and others, produced artwork for comic books and toys, and co-written one fantasy novel, Runes of Autumn.
Given his background in fantasy art, it is not surprising that Elmore has focused almost exclusively on illustrating works of Heroic Fantasy, although he has done occasional covers for sf books. His style is described as decorous and dignified.
1632 by Eric Flint
The Ultimate Y2K Glitch....
1632 In the year 1632 in northern Germany a reasonable person might conclude that things couldn't get much worse. There was no food. Disease was rampant. For over a decade religious war had ravaged the land and the people. Catholic and Protestant armies marched and countermarched across the northern plains, laying waste the cities and slaughtering everywhere. In many rural areas population plummeted toward zero. Only the aristocrats remained relatively unscathed; for the peasants, death was a mercy.
2000 Things are going OK in Grantville, West Virginia. The mines are working, the buck are plentiful (it's deer season) and everybody attending the wedding of Mike Stearn's sister (including the entire membership of the local chapter of the United Mine Workers of America, which Mike leads) is having a good time.
THEN, EVERYTHING CHANGED....
When the dust settles, Mike leads a small group of armed miners to find out what's going on. Out past the edge of town Grantville's asphalt road is cut, as with a sword. On the other side, a scene out of Hell; a man nailed to a farmhouse door, his wife and daughter Iying screaming in muck at the center of a ring of attentive men in steel vests. Faced with this, Mike and his friends don't have to ask who to shoot.
At that moment Freedom and Justice, American style, are introduced to the middle of The Thirty Years War.
