I am so thrilled to see that #botanist Agnes Arber has been given a #blueplaque by @EnglishHeritage. She was a real pioneer for women in science. @IbuAnggrek and I loved writing about her in #BizarreBotany See: https://t.co/FvDTaBojJ5 @LinneanSociety @royalsociety @CUHerb

Are your #plants suffering in the #heat? Did you know that spikemoss, native to the Chihuahuan Desert, can dry out completely, curl in on itself & become dormant for years. When rain finally arrives it absorbs water rapidly, turns green and begins to grow again! #BizarreBotany

Happy birthday to Sir #DavidAttenborough! Did you know he has many species named after him? A Welsh member of the daisy family: Hieracium attenboroughianum; a pitcher plant - Nepenthes attenboroughii & a genus called Sirdavidia from Gabon. #bizarrebotany

Did you know that Paclitaxel - an important treatment for ovarian and breast cancer - was originally isolated from the bark of the Pacific yew, Taxus brevifolia? Later, leaves from other species of yew were used too. #temperateplants #bizarrebotany #temperatehouse #kewgardens

This week one of the world's greatest glasshouses - #Kew's #temperatehouse re-opens after a 5-year restoration. DYK that there are over 170 species of Banksia and all but one come from Australia? Some species are pollinated by honey possums. #bizarrebotany #temperateplants
