First let’s visualize the fastest 2 move helpmate, that surprisingly only the black pieces can do. 1. f4 e5 2. g4 Qh4#
The fastest way with white takes 3 moves. 1. d4 f5 2. e4 g5 3. Qh5#
Both of those mates use a thematic queen on the diagonal pattern, but there is another idea for a 3 move helpmate.
1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 and now, what move by black sets up the checkmate for white?
