Top Tweets for #BombadilOption
@SkyeJethani @MikeCosper *nods* I believe you risk positing a needless dualism. There's real power (& real joy) in candor & courage & conscience. I think of the #SarumanOption & Gandalf (eventually) embracing the #BombadilOption (akin to the #TutuOption). The glorious freedom of the children of God.
The #BombadilOption. A number of people seem to think they've taken up the #GandalfOption and even the #AslanOption when they've actually succumbed to the #GollumOption (or the #SarumanOption). Even Gandalf deferred to Bombadil in the end. Look it up.
@T2thacoops @KPierceResearch @J_Nelson_Music @preston_shipp @philmadeira @MarshaBlackburn @CPCnashville @scottsauls @chuckblackburn The #BombadilOption, in my view, remains the moral core of the tradition. The books end with Gandalf announcing that he's going to be his apprentice.

I think of his "many colors" speech. I think the #BombadilOption is the way of play, the open hand, nothing to hide. The #SarumanOption is the way of shade, shame, presuming/claiming authority over other people's experience. 1/2
@BRamseyJr I teach (or try to teach) Bible every Spring semester & spend a lot of time on the #ParableOfTheBramble. I think it’s Tolkien’s source material & it’s my starting point for the #BombadilOption. If I ever meet @StephenAtHome or @roddreher or @DavidAFrench, I’ll bring it up.
This is where I lose some (but not all) people. Folks like to talk Gandalf & Gollum. Few are prepared to discuss the #BombadilOption.
@DavidDark @kenmcall @NikoJBlack1 @Ryan_Abt @sammyrhodes Who doesn't wanna chill with Bombadil?

@kenmcall @NikoJBlack1 @realandimagined @Ryan_Abt @sammyrhodes Y’all give much thought to the #BombadilOption?
@kennyisgo @nytdavidbrooks @WheatonCollege @AnnaCaudill4 @lisasharper @RevDrBarber @timkellernyc @MarshaBlackburn @drmoore @TimDalrymple_ *nods* As a Nashville lifer, I've watched a # of people my age & younger & older move in out of the efforts undertaken by some of the folks David B. is celebrating here. I think everyone wants to feel real but there's quite a gap between the #BombadilOption & the #SarumanOption.
@brandonjobrien @newenhuyse @timkellernyc It seems to me that our presumed handling of Twitter can be seen & read along a spectrum. One end, borrowing from @roddreher, can be called the #SarumanOption. The other is the #BombadilOption. Like any magic ring, Twitter shows us something about our deepest intentions. 2/2
