THE ERA OF SLOGANS JUST ENDED; THE ERA OF HARD RECEIPTS HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN!
CEO East Africa Magazine crowns @UCC_ED as #CEOOfTheWeek. The numbers don't whisper; they roar: USD 280M for broadband expansion, 1,250 new 4G sites, and tax reforms that should make connectivity affordable.
This is modern regulation rewriting itself, from rule-whipping to hand-holding, de-risking the nation for smarter decisions. Perfectly timed with the 10-fold growth ambition and the digital transformation roadmap.
From enforcement officer to nation-builder, Uganda's digital CEO just crowned the year!

I am humbled by the recognition from CEO East Africa Magazine as #CEOOfTheWeek.
As the article rightly notes, POATE 2026 was an important moment for the entire team at @TourismBoardUg and the many partners who worked tirelessly to make it a success.
My call to our tourism industry, investors, development partners and private sector stakeholders is this: let us convert the connections made at POATE into bookings, partnerships, investments and bankable projects that create jobs and drive growth across our economy.
The visibility has been created. The interest has been generated. Now we must collectively turn that momentum into tangible results for Destination Uganda. #ExploreUganda
A year into the job, Juliana Kagwa got her biggest public test, and delivered.
@JulzKagwa arrived at @TourismBoardUg with a reputation for marketing excellence. One year later, POATE 2026 has become the clearest proof point of her leadership.
With over 350 exhibitors, 120 hosted buyers from more than 40 countries and thousands of projected business engagements, the expo demonstrated Uganda’s growing confidence in selling its tourism story to the world.
The bigger question now is whether that visibility can translate into bookings, partnerships, investment and sustained tourism growth.

Barely one year into office, @MumbaKalifungwa has accelerated @stanbicug's lending from UGX 4.37 trillion to UGX 5.09 trillion—a UGX 717 billion increase in 2025 alone.
That’s a 16.4% jump, sharply up from the more measured 3–4% growth seen in the previous two years—signalling a clear shift from caution to conviction.
And this isn’t abstract growth. It’s already flowing into the real economy—supporting manufacturing, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, and over UGX 1.5 trillion in household lending.

CEO of the Week: Patrick Ayota!
CEO East Africa Magazine's #CEOOfTheWeek segment, recognises and celebrates leaders who translate vision into measurable growth and impact.
This week, we recognise Patrick Ayota, Managing Director of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), for refreshing trust and accelerating performance for its members.
When @AyotaPatrick assumed leadership of the Fund in August 2023 (after acting as MD since December 2022), NSSF was navigating uncertainty. Less than three years later, the Fund is thriving.
In February 2024, NSSF hit its UGX 20 trillion asset milestone one and a half years ahead of its 2015–2025 Strategic Plan target. That early achievement gave the Fund a head start towards its Vision 2035 ambition of UGX 50 trillion in assets.
In FY 2024/25, @nssfug delivered its best results yet: Assets Under Management surged 17.5% to UGX 26 trillion, building on 19.2% growth in 2022/23.
Revenues climbed 11% to a record UGX 3.52 trillion, powered by interest income (UGX 2.88 trillion), dividends (UGX 238 billion), and real estate income (UGX 16.6 billion).
Member contributions grew steadily from UGX 1.72 trillion in 2022/23, to 1.93 trillion in 2023/24, and 2.13 trillion in 2024/25, while benefits paid increased to UGX 1.32 trillion.
Efficiency gains have been remarkable: the cost-to-income ratio fell to 7.9% (from 11.7% in 2021/22), and administration costs dropped to 0.88% of assets. Trust has also flourished, with customer satisfaction at 88% and staff engagement at 91%. Innovation is thriving too: the voluntary Smartlife Flexi savings scheme mobilised UGX 27B within 10 months.

#CEOOfTheWeek | @Gauravanand247 – Cluster Head, Uganda, Ethiopia & South Sudan, @SpiroUganda
At @CEOEastAfrica, we proudly recognise leaders who are not only building companies but transforming industries. This week, we celebrate Gaurav Anand, the driving force behind SPIRO's electric mobility revolution in Uganda, as our #CEOOfTheWeek.
In just 13 months, Gaurav has led Spiro Uganda from pilot stage to market dominance, with over 4,200 electric motorcycles deployed on Ugandan roads and 2,400+ of those rolled out in July 2025 alone. That single-month performance pushed Spiro’s estimated market share to 30% — a monumental feat in one of Africa’s most dynamic boda boda markets.
But Anand’s success isn’t just about numbers. It’s about vision, partnerships, and people. Under his leadership, Spiro has:
✅ Built a robust battery-swapping network (105+ stations)
✅ Leveraged Uganda’s trusted financing ecosystem
✅ Prioritized customer experience and community adoption
✅ Created thousands of clean-energy livelihoods for riders
This journey wouldn’t be possible without a formidable network of partners. We salute:
📎 @MOGOUganda, whose financing solutions are opening up access for thousands of riders — backed by innovative tech partners like @gnugridcrb, which provides real-time credit scoring and data intelligence to de-risk and accelerate loan approvals.
📎 @asaakmobile and Yongeza Capital, who continue to redefine asset-based financing with rider-first models.
📎 @UnionAppUg, whose cooperative network has become a strategic channel for reaching riders affordably and at scale.
And the incredible Dealer & FOFO partners who are the grassroots heartbeat of this rollout.
As Gaurav put it best on his LinkedIn page: “Together, we successfully deployed approximately 2,400 bikes in July, a major milestone that has helped push Spiro Uganda to an estimated 30% market share this month!”
Join us in congratulating Gaurav Anand for steering one of the most ambitious clean transport rollouts in Africa. Uganda’s EV transition is real — and Anand is at the wheel.
Let’s keep the momentum going!

Congratulations to George William Nyombi Thembo (@UCC_ED) the Executive Director of the @UCC_Official for successfully hosting and chairing the just-ended @ITU Global Symposium for Regulators 2024 (GSR-24) which was held at the @SRCC_Uganda in Kampala, between the 1st - 4th of July 2024.
Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)⏤ the UN Agency for Digital Technologies – the symposium brought together over 600 participants including Ministers, Heads of Regulatory Authorities, industry executives and academics to discuss "strengthening our collective capacity to navigate the fast-changing technology landscape and drive sustainable and inclusive digital transformation," according to Cosmas Luckyson ZAVAZAVA, PhD., Director of ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau.
Some of the topics discussed include generative AI and robotics, building an inclusive, safe and sustainable space economy, and the required interventions in addressing climate change challenges.
H.E @jessica_alupo, the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda represented H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the symposium. Doreen Bogdan-Martin (@ITUSecGen), the Secretary-General (ITU) and Hon. @CHRISBARYOMUNS1, Uganda's Minister of ICT and National Guidance, were in attendance.
At the meeting, Mr. Nyombi Thembo was elected the Chair of the GSR-24.
The meeting endorsed a set of regulatory guidelines to maximize the benefits of transformative information and communication technologies (ICTs).
The “GSR-24 Best Practice Guidelines" include a series of considerations for balancing innovation with regulation to create a positive impact on societies and economies from emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
"As we navigate the transformative landscape of digital technologies, the importance of impactful regulation cannot be overstated," remarked Nyombi Thembo.
“Our shared learnings and collaborative efforts are crucial in shaping a regulatory environment that not only fosters innovation but also ensures that the benefits of technological advancements are widely shared. By recognizing the interdependencies with other sectors, we can create a cohesive framework that supports sustainable development, economic growth, and inclusivity. Together, we have the power to turn technology into a force for positive change, illuminating pathways to a brighter, more connected future," Nyombi Thembo added.
