This morning at 0800 hours, Engine 44 was officially placed in service.
With the sound of a single long alert tone, the announcement was made across Charlotte Fire: “Engine 44 is now in service.”
Temporarily housed at Firehouse 43, Engine 44 will serve the River District until its permanent home is completed off Dixie River Road.
With this addition, Charlotte Fire now proudly operates 44 engine companies—each one a commitment to service, readiness, and protection for our city.
To the firefighters riding Engine 44: may your shifts be safe, your response swift, and your service honorable.

Charlotte Fire Responds to Three-Alarm Fire on East Morehead Street
This morning, Charlotte Fire responded to a significant fire at a building located in the 300 block of East Morehead Street.
At 7:47 a.m., @CFD_Alarm Charlotte Fire Alarm received a report of heavy smoke at the address. Firefighters were immediately dispatched, with the first unit en route by 7:48 a.m.
At 7:51 a.m., Ladder 4, Engine 11, Engine 4, and Engine 2 arrived on scene. Engine 2 assumed initial command of the incident. Upon arrival, Ladder 4 reported heavy fire conditions in the basement of the structure. Additional fire apparatus were dispatched to support the response.
At 7:56 a.m., Battalion 1 assumed command and escalated the response to a second alarm at 7:57 a.m. As conditions worsened, Car 7 took command at 8:01 a.m. At 8:02 a.m., an evacuation tone was sounded, instructing firefighters to exit the structure due to safety concerns. By 8:04 a.m., a roof collapse was imminent, and at 8:30 a.m., the structural integrity of the walls was also compromised.
A third alarm was struck at 8:42 a.m., bringing additional resources to the scene. After an intense firefighting operation, the fire was brought under control at 10:23 a.m.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
“The dedication and quick action of our firefighters prevented what could have been a far worse outcome,” said Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson. “Their ability to make decisive, tactical decisions under extreme conditions speaks to their training and professionalism. I’m incredibly proud of their commitment to protecting our city.”
The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force is actively working to determine the cause of the fire. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

STRUCTURE FIRE UPDATE: 300 block E Morehead St. Incident controlled in 2 hours and 30 minutes. There have been no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force is working to determine the cause of the fire.

STRUCTURE FIRE UPDATE:
At 12:50 a.m., Charlotte Fire received multiple reports of a vehicle fire on the parking deck of an apartment building in the 3500 block of Philemon Ave.
Engine 7 arrived on scene at 12:54 a.m. to find a car fully engulfed in flames on the third floor of the parking deck, with fire rapidly spreading to nearby vehicles. Crews moved swiftly to attack the flames and contain the escalating fire. Rescue 11 conducted a search of the area, confirming no victims were inside.
Despite firefighters’ quick response, the intense heat and flames damaged a total of 14 vehicles and caused structural damage to the parking deck. The fire was brought under control at 1:35 a.m. The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force determined the fire was accidental, originating in the engine compartment of a parked vehicle. Estimated property loss exceeds $170,000.
Thankfully, no civilians or firefighters were injured, and no residents were displaced.

Before sunrise, 21 Charlotte firefighters packed their gear, inspected their equipment, and hit the road—heading straight into the heart of a disaster. As historic flooding and freezing temperatures devastate southeastern Kentucky, our team is answering the call to assist in swift water rescues and emergency response.
Led by Captain Jerry Rogers, these firefighters leave behind their families and routines to serve those in desperate need. Their mission is clear: to save lives, support overwhelmed first responders, and bring aid to communities in crisis.

STRUCTURE FIRE UPDATE: 1700 block Tar Heel Road. The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force determined the fire accidental, caused by the improper thawing of a known chemical, which resulted in a violent polymerization. The estimated property/content loss $425K.
This morning, we bid a heartfelt farewell to Charlotte Firehouse 11 as the final crews rolled out one last time.
For more than six decades, Firehouse 11 has been a cornerstone of bravery, resilience, and service to our community. Generations of firefighters have answered the call from this firehouse, protecting lives and creating memories within its walls.
Today marks the end of an era—but also the beginning of a new chapter. While the building will change, the spirit of Firehouse 11—the camaraderie, the dedication, the unwavering commitment to service—will remain.
To the firefighters who’ve called Firehouse 11 home, thank you for your service and sacrifice. To the community it has protected, thank you for your trust and support. And to the legacy of Firehouse 11, it will live on in every life touched and every life saved.
