Many children are never identified, because #ChildFind noncompliance is chronic & systemic. 😔
Your son succeeded despite real barriers and obstacles in education and I’m sure you played a pivotal part.
I believe in God’s plan for each of His children, and I’m thankful for your son’s military service. 🙏🏼🫡 🇺🇸
🎯 Child Find, made simple: A student doesn’t have to fail before we act. If there’s reason to suspect a disability and a need for special education, we evaluate...we don’t wait for them to drown first. 😉🏾📚💯

I urge you and @EducationFL to actively support and empower parents to hold districts accountable for full #ChildFind compliance. Florida is failing its children on early identification and early intervention—the preventable, lifelong costs to families, taxpayers, and society are enormous and unacceptable.
Every child deserves what I want for mine: schools that answer to families, not bureaucracies.
Parental autonomy isn’t a slogan—it’s the foundation of a system that actually works.
We’re building a Florida where parents lead, teachers are trusted, and every student has a real pathway to opportunity.
The next chapter of education freedom starts with trusting the people who love these kids most.
🚨 Florida is failing its kids — and the Parkland tragedy shows exactly how deadly those failures can be.
Federal Child Find requires schools to proactively identify and support children with disabilities early. Yet eligibility explodes 380% from ages 3 to 10.
Districts wait for kids to fail first. By 10, many have already started checking out.
Nikolas Cruz was identified for special education services around age 3 with developmental delays and behavioral issues. He had an IEP for years. But systemic breakdowns in special education — including giving him bad advice that led him to revoke his rights in high school — left him without the supports he desperately needed.
Early identification without consistent, effective intervention isn’t enough. Waiting until kids are in crisis is unacceptable. Parkland was preventable.
Florida (and districts nationwide) must enforce Child Find, strengthen Tier I instruction & special education services, and intervene before kids fall through the cracks.
Kids’ lives and school safety depend on it.
As a Florida resident and parent of a twice-exceptional dyslexic, who just graduated from a FL high school with honors, I happily volunteer to support the state in accomplishing all of this.

I know from firsthand experience that the doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Learning & Emotional Assessment Program (MGH-LEAP) have been handing families a clear, comprehensive & detailed roadmap since at least 2017.
BUT schools? They straight-up ignore #ChildFind and #FAPE under the federal IDEA, then shove families into the rigged “Due Process” circus—where state-contracted hearing officers reliably rule for their employer while kids, families, and America get screwed.
Doctors can’t fix that level of systemic corruption, but rigorous forced compliance — or a federal audit of state education agencies’ (e.g., Minnesota) IDEA block grants — could make education great again for every American child.

When doctors diagnose an intellectual or developmental disability, they should do more than deliver a diagnosis—they should provide families with a clear path forward. Too often, families leave that conversation without the guidance, resources, or support they need, and with more questions than answers.
Medical professionals can change that. Refer families to organizations like @bestbuddies and other disability-support networks that connect individuals and families to community, services, and opportunities from day one. No family should have to navigate a diagnosis alone.

Good morning Secretary McMahon (@EDSecMcMahon @Linda_McMahon),
Public records from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) reveal a pattern of local school districts violating IDEA's Child Find requirements (§300.111) – failing to identify & evaluate children with suspected disabilities.
These repeated findings in state complaint decisions & reviews suggest possible systemic oversight issues at the state level, potentially justifying a federal monitoring review or desk audit of MDE's IDEA grant compliance.
I have compiled supporting cases from MDE's database and am ready to provide them. Ensuring strong IDEA enforcement protects kids nationwide.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and your leadership! 🇺🇸

Data shows states and districts have been chronically noncompliant with #ChildFind, FAPE, and other federal education rules & regulations for decades...

Dear @EDSecMcMahon,
Thank you for this clear commitment to protecting American children with learning differences and disabilities.
I’m cautiously optimistic that stronger HHS & DOJ partnerships will finally deliver real accountability on #ChildFind noncompliance and FAPE denials — too many families have waited years for states and districts to follow the law. Looking forward to measurable results for every IDEA-eligible American child.

@FlowTap1 @edchoice @colynritter24 @pauldiperna @alexanderrusso @KevinMahnken I wonder what percentage of the children whose parents changed their school due to bullying are victims of chronic #ChildFind noncompliance &/or #FAPEdenied. 🤔
I have many reasons to believe it’s a systemic problem plaguing all 50 states. That’s exactly why I’ll keep pressing the Trump administration to use its full audit powers and launch thorough IDEA investigations into every state until #ChildFind compliance is 100%.

🚨 Hello @VP @JDVance,
Would you please tell me why federal “enforcement” of IDEA is nonexistent?
Despite documented noncompliance in multiple states, the feds almost never withhold a single dollar of funding from special education. 🤔
Corrective action plans and “monitoring” instead? 🤦🏼♀️ That’s not oversight. That’s government-granted fraud on kids and taxpayers.
Where’s the accountability, @EducationOIG @usedgov?

@MariaPeiro305 How effective & efficient is Miami-Dade County Public Schools at implementing the federal IDEA (e.g., #ChildFind, #FAPE)? Has the district improved since the findings in this systemic complaint 👉 (https://t.co/HoG0LTlXk8).

Florida is failing its kids. Campaign slogans and AI bandaids won’t fix the deep systemic failures in our education system.
@ByronDonalds, what’s your plan to force local education agencies into full compliance with federal #ChildFind requirements under IDEA—so we identify and support at-risk children before another Parkland happens?
Prioritizing success pathways in education will unlock the full potential of the Florida Dream.
Most school districts are chronically noncompliant with federal #ChildFind requirements under IDEA.
As a result, families with resources turn to independent medical/psychological/neuropsychological evaluations to identify learning differences, ADHD, autism, and other impairments that clearly affect classroom performance—exactly what schools are legally required to find.
The real data gap isn’t mysterious. Investigate states with disproportionately high volumes of Child Find complaints and due process cases. That’s where the systemic failures are concentrated. #FAPEdenied
New today: Rich students are 2x as likely as their poorest classmates to receive accommodations at school through Section 504, a federal disability law

Evidence of chronic #ChildFind noncompliance by Pennsylvania’s local education agencies has mounted for years—systemic failures to identify, locate, and evaluate children with disabilities under the federal IDEA.
This latest report gives @usedgov clear probable cause to launch a formal investigation and enforce corrective action.
We the People, Parents, and Teachers demand accountability for civil rights violations.

@1in5advocacy @DataRepublican @dmv3941 I teach in PA.
My district doesn’t tell parents of severely special needs kids there’s an option to send them to a specialized school.
Why?
We’d have to pay to send them AND we’d lose state/fed money for those kids.
Teachers get in trouble for telling families about it.

📢 Schools don’t raise American children — parents do.
That’s why AFL launched a Parent and Student Action Center to equip families with the tools to DEFEND parental rights and PROTECT children in schools.
AFL President @genehamilton lays out this critical new resource👇
@EDSecMcMahon @NAEP_NCES Today’s scores expose egregious educational malpractice and are an indictment of state and local education agencies' chronic noncompliance with federal civil rights laws in education, like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
#ChildFind #FAPE #FAPEdenied
America’s taxpayer-funded teacher preparation programs are deeply flawed, so the most effective solution to address the alarming decline in reading scores is to urgently retrain K-3 teachers in direct, explicit, multimodal, structured, and sequential methods to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension within Tier I (general education).
Simultaneously, we must overhaul and reform every taxpayer-supported College of Education to ensure future teachers are thoroughly prepared and practically trained to deliver Structured Literacy from day one, without exception.
Moreover, it is imperative that @EDcivilrights (or @CivilRights) enforce every federal education law with unwavering transparency and accountability. Too many local school districts are squandering taxpayer funds on exorbitant legal fees to circumvent federal laws, while misappropriating resources intended for specially designed reading instruction. This systemic failure demands immediate action to protect our students and uphold the integrity of our educational system.

Dear @AZSenateDems,
Are you aware that #ChildFind is a federal mandate? Has Arizona overlooked the supremacy of federal law in this regard? Arizona’s children may benefit from a systemic complaint filed with @EdCivilRights to ensure compliance, @ClarkRimsza.
@ClarkRimsza @AZSenateDems Families of children with autism often struggle to get timely evaluations and services. Allowing private diagnoses helps ensure kids aren’t left waiting, and ESAs let parents choose programs that truly meet their child’s needs. Access shouldn’t be politicized.
Thank you, @StasiKamoutsas. Ensuring compliance with education laws is critical.
Applying the same rigorous enforcement to #ChildFind and #FAPE would guarantee students receive the free and appropriate public or public-funded education they are entitled to under the federal Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA). Let’s #EnforceIDEA and stop #FAPEdenied.
We will continue to ensure that the material in Florida schools focuses on enhancing academic achievement, not gender ideology. @VanAyresHCPS was wise to pull these books. All school districts remain on notice and should govern themselves accordingly.

Who’s responsible for Child Find? EVERYONE! 🌟 Just wrapped up SpEd 101 with a group of enthusiastic new teachers ready to make a difference! 💙💛 #ChildFind
