COVID-19-Associated Cardiovascular Complications: A Narrative Literature Review 🚨SARS-CoV-2 infection can enforce extensive direct and indirect cardiovascular injury, substantially elevating short-term mortality rates and generating enduring, often initially subclinical threats to your cardiac health, and this irrespective of disease severity. (LC) ➡️This USA narrative literature review summarizes evidence on COVID-19-associated cardiovascular complications in adults, focusing on U.S. patients. It distinguishes impacts on those with pre-existing cardiovascular disease (e.g., hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure) versus new-onset issues post-SARS-CoV-2 infection. ➡️“COVID-19 is now understood to be a systemic disease with substantial cardiovascular involvement.” ➡️“Evidence from the current literature demonstrates that myocardial injury, arrhythmias, heart failure, and thromboembolic complications represent major contributors to morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.” ➡️“Emerging data suggest that these manifestations are driven by interconnected mechanisms, including endothelial dysfunction, thromboinflammation, immune-mediated myocardial injury, and microvascular damage.” ➡️“These processes contribute not only to acute cardiac complications but may also play a role in persistent cardiovascular abnormalities observed after recovery from the initial infection.” #LC ➡️“Early identification of cardiovascular involvement remains critical for improving outcomes. Integrated cardiovascular assessment, including cardiac biomarker evaluation, electrocardiography, and targeted imaging, may assist clinicians in identifying high-risk patients and guiding appropriate management strategies.” ➡️“Further research is needed to better define the long-term cardiovascular sequelae of COVID-19, optimize antithrombotic strategies, and clarify the natural history of post-infectious myocardial dysfunction.” ➡️“Improved understanding of these mechanisms will be essential for developing targeted therapeutic approaches and refining long-term cardiovascular care for patients affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection.” ‼️So, AGAIN, COVID-19 remains a profound cardiotoxic systemic infection capable of inflicting severe, sometimes irreversible cardiovascular damage, even in previously healthy individuals, through intertwined inflammatory, thrombotic, and endothelial pathways, underscoring the virus's enduring threat to heart health far beyond a so-called “acute respiratory illness.” ‼️IMPORTANT REMINDER: Post-COVID sudden death is emerging as a stealthy, underrecognized epidemic, with these persistent viral effects fuelling rising cardiac fatalities, even in those who experienced only a mild illness, demanding urgent surveillance, risk stratification, and preventive strategies to avert a hidden and growing wave of preventable heart-related tragedies.
