With the three subtraction strategies @pwharris, is teaching the traditional algorithm necessary? Making sense of numbers and their place value- much easier. Worked with some students using the difference strategy; they found a new love for subtraction! #changemathclass

My take away from @pwharris #ChangeMathClass challenge is that student understanding of subtraction is the foundation for their multiplicative thinking.. this makes so much sense in what I am seeing in math intervention. Students can't move on b/c they lack that foundation.
