“I think a lot of it is payroll-induced,” Hoynes said. “It’s talent and the money you spend on talent shows up mostly in the postseason. The White Sox have a larger payroll than Cleveland, but it’s not like they’re loaded with superstars. I just think you get what you pay for sometimes. And when you have a scrappy kind of offense that the Guardians have, sometimes that plays better over 162 games than over a best of five.”
