🌳🪵 The hazardous journey of the #Balogun #stream, fraught with #channeled #stormwater run-off from not one,
but *two* of Ibadan's steep quartzite hills,
proceeds through Sabo and the stream finally empties into the #Ogunpa at Odiolo market area.
One wonders how it must have coped during the years before the #Ogunpa #River #Channelization #Project, when the #Ogunpa #flooded repeatedly.
From the width of the concrete channel at its emptying end, it is clear that the engineers were not taking any chances with the amount of water the Balogun stream could pick up before it reached the #Ogunpa.
In the decades before #channelization, any ballooning out of the Balogun stream must have severely affected the low-lying areas of Sabo and Mokola Roundabout.

gets more than its fair share of deliberately #channeled #stormwater, cascading through heavily eroded gullies.
After it moves away from Oke Itunu and passes through a culvert at the end of Jemibewon/Barrack road,
it receives another blast from the steep #Mokola Hill,
shortly before the Mokola flyover and roundabout.
This must be a lot to put up with during #rainy #season downpours,
considering that it also receives copious quantities of #stormwater run-off as it passes through the thickly built up areas of Sabo community.

🌳🪵 #Ogunpa #River tributaries that pass close to the foot of Ibadan's quartzite hills,
like the Balogun stream,
the second tributary of the #Ogunpa, downstream from #Ogunpa/#Agodi #Forest #Reserve, flowing past Oke Itunu and Mokola Hill,
also receive huge amounts of #stormwater run-off from the totally #deforested, densely #urbanized, impossibly steep slopes.
In the areas of #Ibadan that boast smooth tarred roads, most this stormwater run-off is channeled through cemented gutters and deep storm drains.
Unfortunately, this otherwise efficient civic engineering ends abruptly at the edge of the road, at about the same place as the contractor's award,
so that the stormwater cascades freely down the hillside,
into surprisingly deep gullies surrounded by unbelievable quantities of rotting solid waste,
with slum dwellings perched precariously on the verge of the rapidly eroding slopes,
and headlong into the nearest #Ogunpa tributary.
