Much in the news today about the #ChilternHundreds. In October 1779 Thomas Wood became MP for Middlesex as a 'caretaker' as Lord North refused to grant the Hundreds to George Byng (MP for Wigan). Wood was elected, keeping the seat warm for Byng until 1780.
