I am sure you have been informed that Harvey is now back on the surgical waitlist for his scoliosis surgery, a change which only happened after we opted to see a surgeon privately, not as a result of any assistance from the βtask forceβ.Β
I fear that the task force, and David Moore may be misleading you and purposely skewing the information you are being given to appear as though they are doing more than they are. If that is the case, it is understandable that you repeatedly mention your meeting with them as a good thing. However, for parents of children living with scoliosis this task force has been nothing short of a disappointment.Β
I am aware that the information you were given in relation to Harvey was that he was removed for βclinical reasonsβ but couldnβt go in to specifics due to GDPR and patient confidentiality. However, as Harvey mother I can choose to share the information.Β
Harvey was originally due to have surgery in August 2022, which did not happen, then we got an official surgical date for April 2023 which did not go ahead. I checked with CHI in February 2024 and Harvey was still on the urgent waiting list. When I emailed in August, I was told he was no longer on the list as he had been removed. Not that he was transferred to the suspended list as should be the case if a child needs surgery but isnβt clinically well enough. He was removed.Β
Over the last 2 years we have seen 4 orthopaedic surgeons, 3 of which said that surgery was needed and should go ahead. One surgeon wanted to put Harvey in a brace and leave him for 6+years and refused to list Harvey for surgery. That one surgeon not listing Harvey, does not and should not remove him from a list he is already waiting on.Β
That one surgeon had some concerns about other aspects of Harveyβs health, but specialists in those areas did not feel there was a cause for concern.Β
You have said before that communication has improved with the task force, so tell me why I have asked David Moore 5 times now why Harvey was removed, when he was removed, and who made the decision, and all 5 times he has refused to answer? Can you perhaps ask Mr Moore to answer those questions? His last email to me told me that the surgeon that has agreed to list Harvey can answer our questions going forward, which quite frankly is a slap in the face. The surgeon looking after Harvey now has only met Harvey once before and has had no part in Harveyβs care up until now to know the answer to those questions. Nor is it his job to investigate.Β
You mentioned in the DΓ‘il the day that @MaryLouMcDonald raised Harveyβs case that you would meet with us, like you have many families before when you were minister for health, if that is true I would ask that we arrange a meeting at your earliest convenience so we can better discuss these concerns. I would also ask that at that meeting you invite both the @SBH_PAG , as well as @scolionetwork . I do ask though that no member of CHI or the Task Force be present so we can have an open and honest dialogue.
We have many concerns, about multiple different areas of treatment within CHI and feel a meeting to discuss face to face is most definitely needed.Β
