Not to mention, Cloud getting flashback of Aerith during their first meeting is the thing that breaks him free of Sephiroth’s influence.
In Cleriths’ playthrough, there’s no inconsistency with canon non-optional scenes because Cloud still only has eyes for one girl and one girl only and that’s Aerith.
