Kind attn CoEP Alumnus: Firstly, I was surprised to learn that CoEP allows direct second-year entry based purely on diploma marks, without a common entrance test. This is very different from the 12th-standard route, which goes through highly competitive exams like JEE or CET. That curiosity made me look at this year’s list of lateral-entry students at CoEP since I couldn’t access previous years’. What stood out was that many of these students come from families that are already well-educated and well-resourced. One student is even a director in a Pvt Ltd cos too. That felt counter-intuitive, because I had always assumed this pathway was meant primarily for students from rural, vocational, or financially constrained backgrounds; those who may not have had access to 11th–12th coaching or the mainstream exam ecosystem. So I want to ask the CoEP alumni and current students here: Are students entering via the diploma route academically and competitively at par with those who come through JEE/CET? Or has this become a softer, less-regulated pathway alongside a very competitive one; making it easier for families with better information and resources to use it strategically? PS: This is not about blaming any student. It’s about whether the design of the system still matches its original intent.
