This scandalous situation has to change soon.
Long-Leasehold is an expensive, inefficient, outdated and unjust system of flat ownership.
It has been abolished in most Countries because it is so unfair and impriactical.
Time for #CommonholdNow
You buy a flat for hundreds of thousands and still don’t fully own it.
Then come the service charges, often over £2,000 a year with no real cap, plus ground rent and surprise bills for repairs you never voted for.
Miss a payment and the freeholder can threaten to take the place off you.
Most other countries give flat owners a real share of the freehold.
Here we still run a system that feels closer to renting than owning.
Ban leasehold for good, or keep the current setup?
