I’ve obtained internal government documents via a Freedom of Information request that reveal a coordinated effort by the UK Government to influence the content of television programming, including fictional storylines.
The documents show direct collaboration between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and broadcasters like ITV, Channel 4, and the BBC.
Officials discussed embedding government messaging into soap operas and entertainment shows, not just on COVID and vaccines, but also climate change, mental health, extremism, and “social cohesion.”
Broadcasters were encouraged to tailor narratives for “hard-to-reach” audiences, including ethnic minorities, young people, and working-class viewers.
Some programmes were rebranded entirely to align with government campaigns. Others included plotlines shaped by civil servants.
These documents have never been seen publicly until now.

Dear Mr. Musk,
I, and the people of my town, owe you our gratitude. For six years, we have led the campaign for a Public Inquiry into the cover-up of the grooming and gang rape of Oldham’s children.
To this day, not a single mainstream reporter or news agency has told the full story of what powerful politicians did to those of us who refused to turn a blind eye to the industrial-scale abuse of children, not just in Oldham but across the UK. Without this platform, the truth would remain hidden.
Today, @Keir_Starmer and his @UKLabour will vote against a Public Inquiry into this national scandal. Here are the three main reasons why:
- To protect the block postal votes they rely on from sections of the UK’s Muslim communities to stay in power.
- To shield senior Labour politicians implicated in the cover-up, including Deputy PM @AngelaRayner, Home Secretary @YvetteCooperMP, Government Minister @JimfromOldham, and Greater Manchester Mayor @AndyBurnhamGM.
- To silence and demonise working-class communities like ours. They believe that by branding us as racists and far-right they can silence all opposition and tighten their grip on power.
The Prime Minister is fully aware of what took place in Oldham. When we first began our campaign, whilst leader of the Labour Party, @Keir_Starmer came to Oldham to help support members of his team that were trying to put myself and others in prison for daring to speak out.

That’s not in truth what I said @nazirafzal . I said that ALL THESE ENQUIRIES including @IICSAVSCP Rochdale, Augusta, Oldham have all led absolutely NOWHERE! Nothing changes. Millions wasted. Lawyers getting rich defending the indefensible.
Because those leading these “enquiries” have always wanted to cover up the truth, to hide it. And I’d say it’s become even worse in recent months with those who dare to speak out finding themselves in prison within a couple of DAYS….. when victims wait 6/7/8 years for a trial!! Corrupt and just wrong!
I firmly believe we need totally independent people who will ensure it’s not just another attempt to delay and hide the truth. Radical change and overhaul of all our public bodies. And bring in. Criminal accountability for all our senior police and public officials who have turned a blind eye.
Those with vested interests who pop up when this hits the headlines then fade away again when it all dies down will not bring change. They’re in it for themselves I believe. Conservatives and labour are all equally to blame imo, and @Keir_Starmer as former DPP is perhaps as guilty as anyone I know in where we find ourselves today.
We all know what’s going on, but I don’t trust a single one of those who to date have been entrusted with keeping our children safe and prosecuting serial rapists. They’ve failed. Repeatedly. Knowingly. Criminally.
