★★★★☆ Now I know that Comp. Lit is similar to Film Studies, what I studied. To study it, you have to study everything. A book that explains something so abstract

#myth , #Folklore and Magic in European Literature
#CompLit : Journal of European Literature, Arts and Society (Classiques Garnier)
European literature has long been shaped by the presence of myth, folklore, and magic. From classical myths reinterpreted in the Renaissance, to the oral traditions that infused Romanticism, to the modernist and postmodernist reworking of magical motifs, these narrative dimensions have not only provided enduring archetypes but have also served as a framework for cultural memory, identity, and artistic experimentation. Myths embody collective worldviews; folklore conveys communal traditions and values; magic challenges the boundaries between rationality and the supernatural. Together, they inform the intermedial, intercultural, and intertextual fabric of European literary expression.
This thematic issue of COMPLIT: Journal of European Literature, Arts and Society (Classiques Garnier) invites contributions that examine the ways in which myth, folklore, and magic operate across different periods, genres, and cultural contexts in European literature. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
Rewritings and reinterpretations of classical, medieval, or indigenous European myths.
The role of folklore in shaping national and regional literatures.
Magical and supernatural motifs in Romantic, Gothic, or Decadent traditions.
Comparative approaches to myth and folklore in cross-cultural European contexts.
The intermedial circulation of myth and magic between literature, visual arts, and performance.
Theoretical and critical perspectives on mythopoesis, oral tradition, and the aesthetics of enchantment.
COMPLIT: Journal of European Literature, Arts and Society is an international peer-reviewed journal published by Classiques Garnier. It provides a platform for innovative and rigorous research in comparative literature, with a strong emphasis on intermediality, intercultural dialogue, and the intersections of literature with the arts and society. Its commitment to fostering critical debates and cross-disciplinary perspectives makes it an ideal venue for exploring the interplay of myth, folklore, and magic in European traditions.
