I’m all for “enhancing junior doctors working lives” & good work has been done with this. But news like this undermines that hard work & is an insult to talented, qualified professionals up to their eyeballs in debt from #costoftraining & real terms pay cuts.

@scullingmonkey Unfortunately virtual meetings, particularly at this scale are very pricey to run.
I recognise the huge #costoftrianing issue & have been advocating for keeping fees as low as poss for trainees/students
Comparable to/cheaper than AMEE, BAD, RCP, RCGP, RCPsych, DEMEC etc

Today’s leaders (read: consultants) didn’t have to jump the hoops or scale the heights they now set.
If you are going to spend time and energy into monitoring the athlete’s readiness and jump tests on a weekly basis then make sure that you use the information for indications of adaptability and not exclusively for performance. #costoftraining

The worst thing about medicine is the monetisation of EVERY SINGLE step of your career, from pre medical school UKCAT courses, core training interview prep, PACES courses that cost ££££ and consultant interviews.
My suggestions:
- Consider reform of PG curricula (yes, more of that, I’m afraid)
- Reflect on accessibility of competitive programmes
- Adjustment of points systems/interviews
- Another look at #costoftraining. AoMRC did this in 2017, but landscape has changed..
Lots of obvious implications for #costoftraining & #FOAMed but this industry (and it is an industry) is growing as #medstudents use their critical appraisal skills to decide on preferred platforms to supplement their mainstream uni delivery. #MedEd

Last year there were 101 clinical teaching fellows in the NE alone who all had PGCert funded. There are sources of funding. But yes, we need to look hard at #costoftraining
