@NSCsafety A8: Call it out. Not only that, but calling it out with the reasons WHY it's so dangerous to back it up. Drivers do become bored while behind the wheel which is potentially why they reach for some mental stimuli, but your driving task requires your mental focus 24/7 #DDAM_TC
@NSCsafety A7: This is quite literally why we've posted so many videos during April to highlight a lot of the mental distractions that occur and how to combat them. (inserts shameless YouTube channel plug here)
Becoming lost in thought happens to all of us. #DDAM_TC
@NSCsafety A6: Parroting @AAASafety here, but setting a good example is the best start. Once students are by themselves they will start emulating what they've seen all their lives. Start them off right. #DDAM_TC
@NSCsafety A5: Work on habits that are actually conducive to safe driving behaviors. (Silencing phones, set music/playlist before driving, etc). We hand out these cell slips (mini-Faraday cages) that blocks cell signals to our students. #DDAM_TC

@NSCsafety A2: Worst examples include all of the intentional choices drivers make to distract themselves. There are other factors outside the vehicle that can become distracting, or mental thoughts taking our minds of the driving task. But intentional acts are the worst. #DDAM_TC
@NSCsafety Distracted driving takes away so many loved ones each year.
This is preventable. Start the conversations early! 59% of all teen crashes involve some form of driver inattention, and 12 percent of teen crashes involve cell phone use. #Dontdriveintexticated #AAAMDNews #DDAM_TC

@AAASafety @NSCsafety A10: We love AAA's #DontDriveIntexticated message. You'd be appalled if you saw a driver with a beer in their hand. Why is it not the same when you see a cell phone? #SpeakUp #Educate #DDAM_TC
A11: Always be a roadway role model; even if you don’t have a teen driver! #DDAM_TC

@NSCsafety A11: To help combat #distracteddriving, enable a ‘Do Not Disturb’ setting/app on your phone, talk to your employer about implementing a distracted driving policy, be a proactive passenger & speak up, and don’t forget to set good examples for others. #DDAM_TC #EverySecondMatters
A11: Just drive. Period. Tell your friends, family members and colleagues to do the same. Don’t be afraid of having that uncomfortable conversation if you see someone driving while distracted. You might end up saving their life. #DDAM_TC
Q11: What resources and thoughts should people take away from this chat? #DDAM_TC
A11: Employers can lead in the fight to end #distracteddriving. Get free educational materials, free resources and free training from @ODCTXTS: https://t.co/xvR9ucVsWH #DDAM_TC @TxDOT @TTITAMU @txextension @Lisarob5 #Texas

@JacobSmittyS @NSCsafety Cars are extremely fast, extremely heavy, dangerous but necessary things. Learn to respect how in a split second, they can change your life forever. Use with caution! #DDAM_TC
@NSCsafety A10: @SafeRoadsNow also calls on the @USDOT to issue safety standards for proven vehicle technologies like automatic emergency braking, which have been shown effective at reducing crashes. AEB should be standard in all vehicles because of its lifesaving potential. #DDAM_TC
