The NYT is reporting that all the talk about a missile coming through the window to kill Hanyieh is untrue. Instead, a bomb was hidden in the guesthouse used by the IRGC months ago. The bomb was detonated remotely when the Hamas leader was in his room. The damage captured is indeed consistent with an internal explosion, rather than the entry of a missile. That means the lapse in security is down to the IRGC guards at the compound. According to the NYT: "The Middle Eastern officials said that the planning for the assassination took months and required extensive surveillance of the compound. The two Iranian officials who described the nature of the assassination said they did not know how or when the explosives were planted in the room.
