@Anna90523382 Using #DIYAPS for almost 4 years has been incredibly beneficial in terms of much better sleep and it managing my glucose when I couldn’t during various tangoes with Covis and post brain surgery. It’s been the safety net I needed 🌟
@katieestevenson The vague figures we have for #NIdoc are quoted as ~10,000 with #T1D, approximately 1,600 have pumps. Hybrid closed loops aren’t funded here for those over 18 which has led to people turning to #peersupport groups to build #DIYAPS with the blessing of a number of #HCPs.

7 yrs ago I first "closed the loop" with a #DIYAPS. It involved carrying around a raspberry pi, dexcom receiver, huge battery pack and the carelink. 7 yrs of iterations, thanks to work by #WeAreNotWaiting community, today I changed my pod to my first Dash with no accoutrements.

Roche Combo in ‘14, Libre in ‘17 then Pods in ‘19 and #DIYAPS from ‘19. QoL feels SO dependant on diabetes technology here, especially Flash at the very least with alarms but rtCGM, a DIY one or otherwise. I hate it but need it.

Should be less about "them vs us"
More about the potential for symbiosis, creativity and mutual appreciation to collectively form better solutions in #t1d
I presented today at #ADA2023, sharing perspective of why, with safety & efficacy data *and* importance of user choice for people with diabetes, DIY AID systems are (still) necessary for people with diabetes.
