Storytime thoughts. 🧵 🧵 🥱 Should we just go around highjacking posts saying "Please use blockchain that actually works"? How's that for a campaign? Don’t lose your first love. Remember when you heard about blockchain for the 1st time? Reaching the unbanked, financial inclusion, ownership, etc… how incredible it was?! Remember this feeling? Then trying to actually use web3 proved difficult. Navigating the high gas fees of Ethereum, slow times to finality of most chains, failed / reverted transactions of so many blockchains— while paying the fees on top of this, then came the repeated downtime of many many chains… who would want to use such broken systems? Then came Algorand. Solved the trilemma and made Web3 great again. Best tech. Finally, the web3 we’ve been promised for a decade. Unfortunately, at some point, VCs, investors, high level influencers (from Wendy to Gokh— I like them both), even the top crypto “news” sites which are supposed to be unbiased and report the news— seemed to have solidified their bags with less than stellar technology. This is clearly evident in the less-than-capable blockchains the media shills non stop. Media asking people to pay them to play, instead of writing on all the incredible ground breaking news we see each day. (Pro tip: If you only get your crypto news from TikTok, YouTube, and X, @CoinDesk, @Cointelegraph, etc. you’re woefully uninformed.) I do love these sites by the way. Remember your first love though. A new internet. A new system of digital ownership and identity. Programmable money. Somewhere along the road, many of these project founders that prioritized financial inclusion, reaching the unbanked, etc. seemed to have left it behind for their bags. Chasing tokens, ponzinomics, making a quick buck. This is evident by any project moving to a blockchain that doesn’t work, or charges more fees (while they claim financial inclusion). This is clear when a project moves to a blockchain worse for the environment (while claiming they love the planet). This is clear when the project needs scalability but builds on a blockchain that can’t even do a few thousand TPS (while claiming scalability). Lots of talk, but follow the logic. Why did they move? It wasn’t the tech. It was all about the money money money. Money from VCs trying to get projects on-chain to create a false DePin narrative, or RWA, or <insert topic here>. You name it. Are you in crypto to dump $Pepe tokens on fresh exit liquidity or are you in crypto to change the world? Don’t ignore your first love of web3 and don’t be a sellout. Use the best tech available that can actually reach the world. Be true to your project, your community, and yourself. If you wanna reach the unbanked, do it. Don’t let anything stop you, especially don’t let the broken web3 blockchains stop you. Don’t let money stop you— code in your mom’s basement if you have to. The world is at your fingertips. Who’s going to create the next super app that changes humanity?? Regardless if you get zero exposure from the legacy crypto “news” sites because you build it on working technology with no drama. Regardless of if it’s hard work and long hours and your token doesn’t go to the moon? There’s more to life than tokens and Lambos. This is the next frontier.
