My mom's oncologist put her on capcetabine, which is toxic for roughly 5% of people... he didn't test her for the #DPDDeficiency that she had. She miraculously survived, barely.
Fluid in her stomach, we were told, was the result of an earlier Whipple procedure and would go away.
The fluid was ascites and that was only determined after an ER doc tested when I brought her in because of dangerously low blood pressure.

I should say my mom had bile duct cancer, one of the rarer ones. They prescribed Capecitabine, which comes with potentially lethal side affects for those that have a #DPDDeficiency that is, itself, very rare. There's a test for that but it's not commonly done. My mom shouldn't have been on it and it killed her.
Mom spent the month of March 2021 in cardiac intensive care unit. She had a severely toxic reaction to her chemotherapy. She had a genetic deficiency that made that particular drug almost fatal. #DPDDeficiency I got to see her once for an hour on her birthday 3/11: #NoAmnesty
