#DearFilmmakers: Nobody should die for a movie. They got lucky here.
On the set of Michael Bay’s new movie. 🤯

#DearFilmmakers: Do not scream at your employees. There is always a way to deal with a problem without losing your shit on the people whose checks you sign.

#DearFilmmakers:
Don't.
Well. At least he said "please." 😐😑
#DearFilmmakers: If you're at the top of the call sheet, you need to protect your crew. Be a role model. Keep your mask on. Put your face shield on. Obey the rules your office personnel worked so hard to set.

#DearFilmmakers: if you want to win an Oscar for Best Picture, you can't make your movie with an all-white-male-able-bodied-cishet crew.
Better see to your hiring practices.

🚨The Oscars just announced their watershed new diversity and inclusion standards for Best Picture.🚨
Starting with the 2024 Oscars, a film must meet 2 of the following 4 standards to be eligible for Oscar’s biggest prize:
#DearFilmmakers: A Compliance Officer is the MINIMUM safety precaution you should have on set. If you can't afford a cleaning service, & ideally a medic, you should push your shoot.
And asking people to work for less than minimum wage right now is unconscionable. #filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: if you want to crew up right now, be up front with your rates - and don't be stingy - and list your Covid protocols immediately. Don't ask your crew to risk their lives without knowing how you plan to protect them, or how much it's worth.

#DearFilmmakers: Don't be gross and predatory. You've got a lot of out-of-work crew looking for set work right now. You still have to pay them a fair wage, & you should give them a bonus for risking personal safety on your project.
#DearFilmmakers: No, you should not be crewing up for your shoot later this month. Do not put crew members at risk. And Crew, for fuck's sake, stop agreeing to work in unsafe conditions.
#filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: Even if it's a small, no budget shoot, number your episodes and use the numbers. Titles change or get abbreviated. When you use consistent numbers, everyone is on the same page with no confusion. It also fits on a slate.
#Filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: You may think you can get by without an AD. You can't. Going without an AD is how you spend 6 hours on 2 pages of dialogue between 2 people in an office.
#filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: Don't forget about vegetarians and vegans and gluten free folks at lunch. Nobody wants to eat a sad plate of rice. #filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: Choices are great. Offer options for crew members, but please don't force one type of eating on them or forbid cell phones on set. Your crew is made up of autonomous adults.
#filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: Take the extra minute to go over your call sheet and make sure you didn't forget someone.
#Filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: Do not rely on PAs to be responsible for safety on set. That's your job.
#DearFilmmakers: When making your budget, don't forget about prep days and kit fees. Even if you're paying minimum wage, your crew still needs those things, and they will cost money.
#Filmmaking
#DearFilmmakers: Please be cognizant when lighting dark-skinned actors. Try to actually light them. #filmmaking
