The depression over southwest & adjoining areas of southeast Bay of Bengal and East Equatorial Indian Ocean moved nearly west-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during past 6 hours, intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centred at 0530 hours IST of today, the 8th January, 2026 over the same region, near latitude 5.4°N and longitude 85.3°E, about 420 km east-southeast of Pottuvil (Sri Lanka), 470 km east-southeast of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka), 470 km east-southeast of Hambantota (Sri Lanka), 570 km southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 860 km southeast of Karaikal (Puducherry) and 1020 km south-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across southwest Bay of Bengal during next 36 hours and cross Sri Lanka coast between Hambantota and Kalmunai around evening/night of tomorrow, the 9th January 2026

The Deep Depression over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 17 kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 27th November 2025 over the same region near latitude 6.7°N and longitude 82.1°E, about 120 km south-southeast of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka), 130 km east-northeast of Hambantota (Sri Lanka), and, 640 km south-southeast of Puducherry (#India) and 730 km south-southeast of Chennai (India).
It is very likely to continue to move nearly north-northwestwards across southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Sri Lanka and intensify further into a cyclonic storm during next 03 hours. Thereafter, it is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards across southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Sri Lanka coast towards North #Tamil_Nadu, #Puducherry and adjoining south #Andhra_Pradesh coasts during subsequent 48 hours.

The deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST of today, the 26th October 2025, over southeast & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, near latitude 11.4°N & longitude 86.6°E, about 670 km west of Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), 720 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 780 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 790 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 900 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha).
It is likely to move nearly west-northwestwards, intensify further into a #cyclonic_storm over southwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours. Thereafter it is likely to move northwestwards, then north-northwestwards and intensify into a #severe_cyclonic_storm by morning of 28th October. Continuing to move further north-northwestwards, it is very likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between #Machilipatnam and #Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during evening/night of 28th October as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.

The #deep_depression has advanced a little and is located to the east of the sea areas to its north...So , There is no chance of continuous heavy rain in #Amparai anymore due to that circulation. However, rain may be recorded in some places tomorrow but there is no need to panic... This situation does not apply to #Jaffna province... From now on, the chances of continuous heavy rain will increase further...
#Nagapattinam AWS has received almost 128 mm of rainfall so far... In the next few hours, #Nagapattinam, #Karaikal, #Vedaranyam, #Sirkazhi, #Tharangambady (#Tranquembar), #Poompuhar, #Thiruvarur and the coastal areas of the delta and its adjoining areas will also experience heavy rain.the rain will be continue in isolated places... As we had expected earlier, it is very clearly visible that the wind is penetrating well in the coastal areas of the #Delta districts including our #Nagapattinam, #Karaikal, #Mayiladuthurai, #Tiruvarur etc... likewise, North Coastal District like #Puducherry, #Cuddalore, #Chennai and its suburbs also received good rainfall.....Reagarding the Situation in the Eastern and Northern Provinces of Sri Lanka... We have also received information that there is flooding in many places... especially in the #eelam..
The cyclonic circulation is expected to move northwards close to the eastern coast of #SriLanka for the next two days.. After that, it will reach South west Bay of Bengal (I.e, east of the Delta... So for the next 3 to 4 days #Delta and #Northcoasts of TN and PY will recieve rain..#Chennai_city and its suburbs definitely need this rain... otherwise it will be difficult to cope in 2025...So just enjoy the rain guyz..
